To the Allen Family,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Kelley. I met Kelley in Daytona as a teammate and I was fortunate to be his roommate along with Billy. Three young "kids" as college freshman. I remember Kelley to be a fun loving kid with such a good outlook on things and he had one of the best laughs...infectious. I often tell a story of Kelley swimming in the ocean for the first time. His grin from ear to ear as he ran toward the water and he couldn't seem to get enough. I am happy to hear he loved what he did and so many people were fortunate to have been touched by him. RIP.

I am just hearing about this tragic death and would like to offer my sincere condolences. Kelley and I swam together at Georgia Southern. What a nice guy he was and loved to have a good time. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Six months later and Kelley is still a strong presence. I suspect he always will be. Today my daughter Bruna got to the wall in 4th and I could hear Kelley telling her: "hit the wall hard, hit it hard!". She left the wall in 1st and won. With KAH2O written with a marker in her hand. As she always does.

Dear Jean,
We will truly miss Coach Kelley. Julianne and I saw him at a TBAY meet a couple of weeks ago and were recalling our fun times swimming way back when, and he told me you are still competing. He was very proud of you!! Kelley was my first masters coach and coached both of my children at CAT. We all loved him so much and are so grateful for his special contribution to our lives and the lives of all of his swimmers.
May his memory be eternal.
Love, the Tsagaris Family-Jean, John, Julianne and Stephen

To the Allen family,

As I read all of the kind words about Kelley, I am proud and sad – proud to have known Kelley and sad that he has been taken. I write this to you because I want all of you to know how much Kelley means to my family – the Maurer family.

We met “Tall Panther” during his college swimming days when Billy and Panther were roommates. From the time they met, Billy and Panther were inseparable, and that is how Panther became such a huge part of the Maurer household. As I clearly recall, he was quiet and sweet. He never had anything bad to say about anybody. He was a good boy and we loved him. He was a part of us so much that we called him our adopted brother, and we took that responsibility very seriously. Mom considered him another son; our home was always open to him.

After their time swimming in Daytona, the boys went to Georgia Southern, and that is where they met Jody. Then there were three – Billy, Panther, and Jody. The boys wrapped up in Georgia and moved back to Florida where they continued their friendship. Perhaps to the Allen's dismay, Panther fell in love with Florida and Friends fell in love with Panther, so he stayed.

On behalf of my entire family, we are truly sorry for your tremendous loss. We will always love Panther and consider him a part of our family.

With much love,
Marilyn Maurer (Reid)

I shared the same swimming pool and coach with Kelly in the early days in Bettenforf, Iowa. The only difference between his deadpan delivery of a joke or a "motivational message" for a fellow swimmer, was a slight Impish Grin at the conclusion of his joke. In the words of Coach Fatchett, "Lead, Follow, or get out of the way" (in stronger terms). In the time that I spent with him in the pool, on the decks, in the "bull pens", or traveling to meets, he employed this philosophy every day; mostly leading. So saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to the entire Allen family and to all those whose life he touched.

Dear Aunt Jean, Scott, and Lynn,
My heart goes out to you in sorrow. We have been praying for you. I am reminded by all of "his kids" that I too was a student in one of his classes back in Iowa. He truly was a great teacher, friend, and cousin. I know he is in God's Hands watching out for all of us.
May God Bless and Keep you always.

Coach Kelley,
Thank you for imparting life lessons and giving us a solid competitive swimming foundation. We will always remember your positive voice of encouragement, in and out of the water, your passion for the sport, your interesting stories especially about surfing and your nicknames for us. We will always love you and miss you dearly. You will live on in our hearts.
