Dean,
Always enjoyed your company and our avid, lengthy talks. Your smile is missed but I know welcomed by God and Soul Mates. Rest In Peace.

And the body returns to the earth from which it came, and the life breath to God who gave it. Dust we are - and to dust we shall return.

You are truly now at rest.

You looked into my eyes and saw the fire to love and inspire my players as a coach. You encouraged and supported my efforts to make my players better. You saw the absolute best of us winning a championship. You also saw the absolute worst of us losing a championship. The road trip from Baltimore, MD to Harlem, NY for the PFBL tourney with my team was awesome. I explained to my team that we had a NBA champion in our company going up. Heroes Helping Heroes won that day and we all felt like champions coming back. I thanked you for everything then. Now I eternally Thank You Forever. God Bless You Dean. Coach William Dockery, Jr.

"If an able-bodied man dies can he live again?
All the days of my compulsory service I shall wait,
Until my relief comes.
You will call, and I myself shall answer you.
For the work of your hands you will have a yearning. "

To The Meminger Family, New York Knicks, and New Yorkers everywhere: My heartfelt condolences at the loss of such a gentle giant. I had the pleasure of meeting Dean, the Dream, at a Basketball Hall of Fame ceremony held by a local community based children's organization in Harlem. He was such a nice, soft spoken brother. Not bombastic, or boastful, but with a quiet power. The young people who attended adored him and asked him a lot of questions, and he answered them in a very lighthearted manner. Now that he's made his transition to the ancestors, I know he's joined the pantheon with other greats who have gone before him. What a team! Stay Blessed & ECLECTICALLY BLACK -Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Dear Meminger Family,

I'll always remember Dean "The Dream" Meminger for all the talks we had every time we ran into one another. I met Dean in 1966 at a pick up basketball game in the Columbia University gym. I was a freshman student with heritage from South Carolina just like Dean. Both of Us were enjoying New York City and everything that comes with the Big Apple. We mostly talked about life, but we'd eventually get to basketball and the things one needed to do inorder to be the best. We would debate what NBA player was the best during those times. Of course, I always said Norman "Wilt" Chamberlain because of my growing up in Wilmington, Delaware. Dean went with Bill Russell for the defense and because Russell made his other players the best they could be. I'm going off, but this is how we spoke to one another. I'm going to miss Dean coming to my Riverside Drive apartment during my party days. I'm also going to miss our friendship that spanned four decades plus! As stated at the Memorial Celebration, "Dean "The Dream" Meminger will live on because a Dream never dies, it continues to manifest itself into fruition! God Bless the Meminger Family and I'll always tell folk about the great friend, Dean "The Dream" Meminger that I had in New York City. Two South Carolina guys just hanging out in Harlem, New York! Those were the days!!

My prayers go out to the family of Dean Meminger. May they find comfort in the,Lord. I am not sure why I was unable to find details about his funeral as I really wanted to be there I am sadden by his untimely death. For me he was a very special memory I shared my first real kiss with him, then he convinced me that there was value in eating a raw egg shake, attending church together and the laughs that young people share in HS and inventing our own code to say good night from his window to mines. The years moved on like each of us did. I followed his career and the times he was having his great moments and those less memorable. But in all times he was and continues for to be for me "Dean" the Dream" Dean rest in peace.
