George B. Cloutier, Sr., 89
OXFORD - George B. Cloutier, Sr., 89, of Foster Street, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus, after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia J. (Lawrence) Cloutier of Oxford; five children, George B. Cloutier, Jr. of Oxford, Michelle M. Napier and husband Bill of California, Cindy A. Doyle and husband Keith of Webster, Clifford C. Cloutier and wife Susan of Charlton, and Glenna D. DeJesus and husband Bob of Oxford; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by four brothers, Edward, Joseph, Leo, and Roland Cloutier; and a sister, Olivine Provost. He was born in Belmont, NH, the son of the late Joseph and Eva (Carroll) Cloutier, and lived most of his life in Oxford. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1943.
George was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 5th Marine Division. He is a proud survivor of the battle of Iwo Jima, landing on the island with the first group of troops. He was later deployed to Japan.
Mr. Cloutier owned and operated George B. Cloutier, Inc. excavation company for over 60 years, retiring in 2012. In addition, he was the superintendent of St. Roch's Cemetery for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Roch's Church in Oxford and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 5663 and the American Legion Post 58, both in Oxford, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Webster. In his early years he was a Lifeguard at Miami Beach.
Mr. Cloutier was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus John Cardinal Wright Assembly, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Oxford Council 4241. He was a former member of the Oxford Planning Board and was a member of the American Society of Dowsers. He donated his time and many talents to the town of Oxford.
George enjoyed wintering in West Palm Beach for the last 30 years. He loved golf and was an avid follower of the Red Sox and Patriots. He was most proud of his family.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014, at St. Roch's Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Friends and family are respectfully requested to meet at the church. Military burial will follow at St. Roch's Cemetery in Oxford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 96628, Washington, DC 20090-6628, or online at http://www.marineheritage.org/. Paradis-Givner Funeral Home in Oxford is directing the arrangements.

To the Cloutier Family, my sincere sympathies for the loss George Sr. I always remember his smile when I was a kid and visited or later at the K of C.
