I have always had a high level of respect for Mr. Gant. I first worked with him as the SPL for the first Greater Alabama Council's NYLT course. His level of compassion for making everything just right at Camp Rusthon was admirable. I also had the pleasure of being present when Mr. Gant received the Silver Beaver award. Even though it was long overdue, it was a beautiful night honoring his Scouting career that no doubt changed the lives of thousands. i am truly honored to have worked with him and known him. We need more Mac Gants.....

Dear family Gant
condolence for the loss of Mr Gant, a long time cherished member of St Andrews Society of the Middle South

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. My first job in 1968 was being a Legal Secretary to Mr. Gant in the Law Dept. He was so good and kind to me, teaching me the office ways. He deemed me the social chairman of the 7th floor because I was always visiting everyone on every floor. He would call around to my friends in the building and ask them to send Luan upstairs because he needed me. I can't believe I behaved this way in an office setting; but I was young....and I sort of think Mr. Gant liked me being so friendly. Fond and nice memories of him and many memories of typing information for the Scouts and the Mountain Brook Country Club. A very good man. I am honored to have known him.

We will never know in this lifetime how many people benefited from Mac's dedication and commitment to the Boy Scouts. In addition to working directly with Scouts in troop 86, He organized and ran the camp master program, helped train new leaders, and worked diligently to promote gifts to the Council Endowment Program. During my 14 year tenure as the Council Executive, Mac preformed many tasks that helped improve the quality and quantity of Scouting in the Birmingham Area Council. Mac was a great friend. My condolence and prayers are with Mary and the family.

Mac was a great friend while I was active with the Birminghan Area Council of BSA and I will miss his counsel and great sense of humor -
