"Miss Young" was my first grade teacher at Main Street Elementary School in Springfield, TN.. I loved her dearly as did all of her students. I have fond memories of standing in the coat room for talking, getting a spanking because I was talking when we were practicing for the county Music Festival singing "swing, swing, swing swing under the apple tree", and going to her wedding are just a few memories I have tucked away in my heart. When we had our 40th class reunion for the SHS Class of '64, we invited the McGregor's to the reunion and they came. It was a treat for us to get to visit with them and have our picture made of the students present with her that were in her class. I had she and my cousin, Beth T. Murphy come to visit and be my luncheon guest after the reunion. Due to my own health issues, I have not been able to continue as I wanted to see her with Beth. However, I have asked numerous times about Miss Young.
To her children, you had a wonderful Mother who had good practice with our class of first graders! To the whole family and especially, Mr. Frank McGregor, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue life without your loved one. Having a sister in law who battled the horrible disease of Parkison and lost her battle six years ago at the age of 64, I know how blessed you are to know that your Mother and wife is now healed and whole in the presences of our loving God and her family. I did not realize she had a daughter who was deceased so I know they had a great reunion. Celebrate her new birthday ! I will always remember with love and respect Miss Young and appreciate the foundation that she laid for me to build my education on to obtain my Masters in Elementary Education and to teach Kindergarten for 32 years before becoming disabled. God bless you with strength and feeling the prayers sent your way.
