My father bought a house from Charlie (917 Mitchell Road) in Nashville, in 1957. At that time the Louvin brothers were hitting it big, and moving up in the world. My father developed a friendship with Charlie, and received a special deal on the house, with many extras thrown in. ( Ira lived across the street, and was selling his house as well). I still have in my possession two record albums given to my father by Charlie, signed by him, with the notation, "thanks to some nice people, God's speed always". I also have a copy of the contract for the sale of the same house in 1960, for $15,000. I recently visited that house, and found it to be in good condition. I extend my regards to the family, and would like to meet you in Nashville sometime, to reminisce. I could bring my memorabilia.

I remember going to the Laudermilk farm in Henager Ala with my grandfather to get our mules shoed. Didnt know for many yrs that Mr Laudermilk was Ira and Charlies Dad.
After moving to Wisconsin i didnt get back to Henager for a number of yrs. By then Charlie had moved his Museum to Manchester Murfreesboro area. I never got to meet either of the boys, But, Mr Laudermilk was a true Southern Gentleman.
I still enjoy listening to The Louvin Brothers songs and watching Charlie sing and interview on you tube. would have loved to have met him. The Music industry , friends family and fans will miss him , dearly.

I knew of the Louvin brother's harmonizing sound from our family trips south, once we escaped the NYC radio stations that we got locally - we went "country" the whole vacation. I just wanted the family to know that Mr. Charlie Louvin & earlier, his brother Ira "touched" city slickers too. May Jehovah the God of comfort, grant you comfort in your great loss.

I was singing Louvin Brothers' songs back in the fifties with my band on radio and personal venues.
I was in Bell Buckle, TN about eight years ago guesting with the "Front Porch Pickers" on their Saturday radio program from the Bell Buckle Cafe. To close out the show I was asked to do an inspiration song. I chose a song titled "Who At The Door Is Standing." Mr. Louvin was in his museum across the street listening to the radio. He rushed over to the cafe to see who was singing that song. After the show he came to me and asked if I had a recording of that song. I told him "No." He asked if I would record it for him; I said "Yes I will if you will sing a Louvin Brothes' song with me." He did and I did.
I had been in the museum before, but never talked with him. I often reflect on that day and his request for that song, and thinking, Mr. Louvin surely was a religious person. And, of course I wonder if he ever used the song.
My deepest sympathies to the families and to all who loved his music.

The music business has now lost the other half of a renowed duet...the Louvin's.Although both are now gone their music and singing will continue to influence other musicians just as they have influenced musicians down through the ages. What a duo Ira and Charlie made! What songs they wrote(well,Charlie did say that Ira wrote the songs and graciously added Charlie's name as a writer also. I believe like Charlie has said that had Ira not died they would have gotten together as a duo again. But what a legacy of extraordinary music they gave us before they broke up. I can listen to those over and over...in my car going to work, etc. The music is that electrifying to me. So it was so very nice to see Charlie Louvin on Marty Stuart'show just last night. It was taped December 2,2010.How wonderful that he went out doing what he loved...singing. I just think the Country Hall of Fame should have chosen the Louvin Bros. several decades ago. But at least they now are in. RIP Charlie and Ira.

The passing of Charlie has left the music industry without a great man and his music with Ira. I have loved the Louvin Bros.music for many decades. No one can take their place. The closet thing to them is the Osborne Bros.I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing Charlie on the Country Reunions. I feel sad for the people who don't know the Louvin Bros. music. They just don't know what they are missing out on. I was so proud to see Charlie on the Marty Stuart show just last night. It was taped on this past Dec. 2. My regret about the Louvin Bros. was that Ira died so young. But Charlie kept the music going. May he and Ira RIP. You both made such an impression all over...not just the States.
