Dr. J. Lon King, Jr. Dr. J. Lon King, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Chip Miller officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, entering through the North Gate. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00PM in "The Gathering Place" at First Presbyterian Church. Dr. King was born in Macon to the late Dr. J. Lon King, Sr and Grace Olivia Ide King. He was a graduate of Lanier High School, Emory University and Emory University School of Medicine, earning his M.D. degree in 1945. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order at Emory University. After graduating, Dr. King served in the Army Medical Corps in San Antonio, TX and San Francisco, CA. Dr. King practiced obstetrics and gynecology here in Macon, founding the medical group of King, Schuessler, Pope and Kehl. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia, Bibb County Medical Society, and Fellow in the American Board of Obstetrics-Gynecology. Dr. King was also treasurer of the Georgia State OB-GYN Society in 1955 and 1969. He served as President of the Medical Staff of the Macon Hospital in 1962 and on the Board of Directors of the South Atlantic Association of Obstetric-ians and Gynecologists. Dr. King also served as Chief of Staff of Coliseum Park Hospital in 1983. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon. After practicing medicine for 46 years, Dr. King retired at the age of 70. Dr. King was married to Jean Lorinne Trammell King for 63 years before her death in 2009. He is survived by his sister, Grace King Tribble of Macon; children, Linda King Dillard of Florence, SC, J. Lon King III (Dicksie) of Atlanta, Susan King Pottinger (Chip) of Atlanta and Anne King Bridges (Steve) of Florence, SC; grandchildren: Leigh Dillard Castro, Jennifer Dillard Reynolds, David Weyher Dillard, Mary Katherine King Crook (Wes), Shannon Elizabeth King, Rachel Anne King, Callie Pottinger Strunk (Wes), Charles T. Pottinger IV, Erin Anne Bridges, Kelly Grace Bridges, Jonathan Steven Bridges; great-grandchildren Jack Reynolds, Graham Reynolds, Jocelyn Castro, Vivian Castro, Samuel Dillard, Ella Dillard, and Nathan Crook and several nieces and nephews.
