Keith Hibbett Obituary

Keith Joseph Hibbett

DENTON, TX - Keith Joseph Hibbett, 51, of Denton, Texas went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Galveston, TX. Mr. Hibbett was born on September 12, 1962 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Hoffman and Kathleen (Gremillion) Hibbett. He graduated from Cathedral-Carmel High School and received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. After he graduated, Keith was commissioned, as an Aviator in the United States Navy where he served for 10 years. In June of 1987, Keith Hibbett married Colleen Ann Klinker while fulfilling his duties at NAS Cubi Point, Philippines. In the Navy, Keith was a flight instructor on both T-39's and A-4's. He became a pilot for FedEx in 1996 and excelled immensely due to his determination and great work ethic. His love and passion was WWII history and Aircraft. He fulfilled this passion by becoming a Warbird pilot for Lone Star Flight Museum, Cavanaugh Flight Museum and the Commemorative Air Force. He was a God-fearing servant, husband and father and always did his best to do what was right. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of meeting him. Keith is survived by his wife, Colleen Hibbett of Denton, his children, Danielle and her husband Preston Bakic of Saginaw, Blake Hibbett of Denton, Morgan and her husband Thomas Hussey of Grapevine; and two grandsons, Barron and Brantley Bakic of Saginaw. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel located at 6001 Rufe Snow Dr., Ft. Worth, TX. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 at The Village Church, 2101 Justin Rd., Flower Mound, TX. Keith's final resting place will be at the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL where a service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2013. Pallbearers will be: Blake Hibbett, Hoffman Hibbett, Mike Olson, Tom Gregory, Tom Utley, and Randy Richmond. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Hussey, Ronnie Mount, and Larry Gregory. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Hibbett would prefer if donations were made to the Wounded Warrior foundation, as that was his passion while he was with us.

I had the distinct pleasure of starting near Keith at Fed Ex in flight training within a class of each other. Being that Keith and all of us in training and afterwards were elated, we were pinching ourselves and being reminded to be part of such a success story such as Fed Ex. I remember Keith being very excited and quite proud, as we all were to embark on this great journey of our flying careers. It's unfortunate though that some of the highly motivated, conscientious great ones had to end sooner than others. The ones we knew were quite good and competent at what they did. For they wanted to serve others and help in so many ways. These aviators were also very dedicated to their families all at the same time. Family was very important to them. Keith and I had some enlightening conversations, and maybe because I briefly lived in Lafayette, LA. was one of the commonailities that struck a chord early between Keith and I. Although, careers sometimes diverge paths for awhile, Keith will sorely be missed among his peers. I know that for sure. To the Hibbett family, I don't know what to say other than I'm understanding your loss. Please take comfort many of us are. Blue skies always to you sir, Captain Keith Hibbett!

Our hearts and prayers go out to the Hibbett family, and all Keith's friends. We'd just chatted for 20 minutes in a parking lot a week before this - about what else... family and airplanes. I want Mrs. Hibbett, and all his children, to know how special, loved, and talked about you are. He was always very concerned about you knowing how much you meant to him, especially through the tough times. We're all really going to miss you, Keith. What a great human being and aviator. God bless.

Colleen, it's been a few years since our lives crossed paths, but I still flashback to the days when our kids played outside on Sunswept Terrace and it brings a smile to my face. Our Danielle's were a pair! There are no words that can comfort you at this time, my heart goes out to you and your family for your loss. God has a plan for our lives and sometimes it does not make since to us, but Keith went home to be with his maker and he was doing something he loved. We should all be that fortunate. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Dearest Colleen, Danielle, Blake, and Morgan, Keith was always such a great man and one that we are proud to have known. From Sunswept Terrace, to airshows, to riding in his Stearman and watching his Piper being built in your garage... in our short time with him, there are such memories. Your faith has always been admirably strong and we know God is with you all now and always. The photos and this video is absolutely a testament to the great love your family shares with each other and with God. We must know that Keith has now literally seen the Grace of God as the Heavens welcomed him home. Please know that Penny and I have you all in our hearts and our prayers. God Bless you all.

Hibbett Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I am thankful I had the privilage of knowing your entire family for over a decade now! I remember one of the first times I meant you I looked up to your beautiful family! I am thankful I was able to come to the wedding and see Keith for what I did not know would be the last time in May....we picked up right were we left off years ago! He was so happy during that time, and that is how I will remember him.
Danielle, Blake and Morgan, I remember your dad once saying to me YEARS ago he could not wait til you guys knew him as a friend/person, and not just as a dad ....I hope you did! He was such a great person, he had such integrity which is one of the greatest traits I think a person can have. Over the years, that has been a desire I too now have with my own children, for them to know me as a friend and person. The years when your young are filled with lots of discipline and reprimanding to get you to the fine adults you have all become, so I hope you can look back at your dad too as a friend...he loved you greatly! That was such a great piece of advice I will treasure from him!
We love you all. You are in our thoughts and prayers. This time on earth is a second, and you will spend an eternity with Keith one day! Live your life in anticipation of that day!!
Love you all,

I went to elementary School with Keith for 8 years In Lafayette La. We were both on the basketball team for those entire 8 years. I was the shortest one on the team, and always had someone bigger, giving me a hard time. Keith was there for 8 years having my back and looking out for me. He taught me early on, how to be a gentlemen as he was the epitome. Keith was a kind soul, that never got mad, or frustrated and was a really good team player. I connected with Keith on Facebook in recent time which gave me the chance to thank him for sticking up for me. My prayers for Colleen and the entire Hibbett family. God Speed Keith. Colleen, we cannot even begin to express how sorry we are for your loss. Please accept our sincere condolences. My wife Carolyn, & I will keep you and your family in our prayers.
I met Keith back in the early 80's when I lived in Lafayette LA. We both were members of the Cajun Wing, Confederate Air Force, I was the Wing's Maintenance Officer & the Crew Chief for the B-23 Dragon we had. Although I was only a few years older than Keith, he looked up to me. Keith & I became good friends, & he would do anything to help me keep that old B-23 flying. He had a true interest in aviation, that just glowed about him. Keith also had the quality of kindness, that is very special, he never met my father, a former WWII P-51 Mustang combat pilot, but he thought so much of me & my dad that he built a P-51 model with the exact markings like one of my father's airplanes, as a gift to my dad. (Dad built a special shelf for it) Keith was smart, talented, & I just knew he had what it would take to become a Naval Aviator. Myself, Joe Foretich, & others encouraged Keith to pursue his dream, work hard, keep pushing, "you can do it"! I moved away from Lafayette, & for a time lost touch with Keith. I don't remember exactly when it was or how, but after many years we got back in contact with each other. Through an email from time to time or a phone call once in a while, each time I communicated with Keith over the years, I could tell he still had that passion for aviation. I always let him know how proud I was of him, & how good it made me feel, that with my encouragement all those years ago, I had something to do with him achieving his dream & that is something I will always be proud of. From time to time we had planned to get together again on one of his layovers, here in Atlanta, but much to my regret it never happened. I will never forget that smile, that wonderful personality, & his never ending curiosity about the mechanical side of aircraft, "why are we doing this", "how do we do this", etc... no I will never forget my old friend "College Boy", as I called him. Colleen, God Bless You, Your Family, & All affected by this accident.
Godspeed College Boy!

In Loving Memory of Keith J. Hibbett

Fill not your heart with pain and sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles. I've only gone to rest a while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So dry your eyes and remember me, not as I am but as I used to be. I will remember you all and look on with a smile. Understand, in your hearts I've only gone to rest a little while. As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.

My heart goes out to you and your family.
