Donald Lee Hoover, age 78, was born on October 24, 1934 and passed away at his residence in Hammond on Saturday, August 24, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Donald worked for his brother, Berton Hoover, in the Western Auto Store from age 13 until age 27. Then he became a Tangipahoa Parish Deputy for Sheriff Tom Sanders. Donald later worked as a salesman for Community Coffee after which he then worked as a warehouse supervisor for Jack Core Distributing Company later named Florida Parishes Beverages. Donald never met a stranger and always spoke his mind whether you liked it or not. Donald leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Sue Sanders Hoover; daughter, Denise Hoover Wilson and husband Tim of Ponchatoula; son, Donald Duane Hoover of Ponchatoula, along with two special grandchildren, Hannah Marie Wilson of Ponchatoula and Brandon Keith Wilson of Ponchatoula. He is also survived by his special friend he called his brother, Buster Guzzardo of Independence, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding Donald in death were his two brothers, Berton Hoover and wife Ellazean Chandler Hoover, L.E. "Doc" Hoover and wife Daisy Chandler Hoover; sister, Doris Hoover Allen and husband George Herman Allen; parents, Drury Berlin Hoover and Estelle Harper Hoover. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Monday, August 26, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Joe Baugh will officiate the services and interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Condolences and other information are available online at www.thompsoncares.com.
