Judge Brown and Laurie,
My husband, Gary, and I both had the privilege of being students of Mrs. Brown at Central High School. She instilled the love of English in me and nurtured my love of books and poetry.

Gary, like all the other boys, I'm sure, was enamored by her unique blend of charm, persuasion and discipline, and was willing to do whatever it took to win her approval, including compiling a poetry notebook. We still have ours, although they are 45 and 46 years old and about to fall apart. I treasure her notes in her infamous red ink and beautiful script.

I looked forward to my English class because of Mrs. Brown, and couldn't wait to see what surprise each class held. She was naturally beautiful and elegant and even on smothering hot days, entering the classroom with her presence, was a breath of fresh air.

Mrs. Brown encouraged those of us that needed confidence, guided to lead us to our strengths, and disciplined without breaking spirits. Mrs. Brown was a treasure, and Gary and I are grateful for her influence during such an impressionable part of our lives.

May sweet memories sustain you all and God comfort in your loss.

Judge Brown, Laurie, and family -
Mrs. Mary Ann was one of my very favorite people. She was always so kind, loving and generous while my family was at Ingleside. She always brought this bible verse to my mind: "Love is not just words but something real and active." 1 John 3:18. Please know that all of you will be in my heart and on my mind in the days, weeks and months ahead.
