Thank you, Mike, for always being available with advice and encouragement. Even when I moved away from Louisiana, I could count on you to respond to posts on the SEJ listserv when I needed guidance. You will be missed and environmental journalism has lost a pioneer and shining star. You know, I never thought to ask you if we might be related. My great aunt, Julia Dunne, came into Boston in the late 1800s from Ireland.

Freda, Brad and Dylan, Gary and I were so saddened to learn that Mike had passed away on Sunday, you were very much in our thoughts and prayers that night. I continue to keep you all in my prayers. It seems that they are now hiking this new trail together. Peace be with you all. Much Love, Cathie, B.J., Lee and Guy

Freda, I was heartbroken to hear of Mike's death. I also have known Mike for more decades than seems possible. What I will remember is his sly sense of humor and his intensity for things he felt strongly about. I share your loss. God bless you and the boys.

Freda, Brad and Dylan,
I consider myself one of the luckiest people I know to have had the chance to work with Mike these last few years. Freda, you gave me my first job in journalism and then I'm able to work on the project of a lifetime with Mike so many years later.
He was always willing to laugh at himself or better yet, me. He was kind and compassionate- a true mentor. Mike was a gifted writer who was always willing for anyone to share the benefit of his knowledge.
I am a better person for having known him. I will always miss him.

To Freda and your sons: I truly liked and respected Mike. I worked with him beginning in the early 80's. His sense of humor was really fun. He left us at such a young age. You are surrounded by a loving, supportive group of folks at the Advocate, whom I know will provide sincere and unending consolation for your grief.

Freda, Brad, and Dylan: I am saddened by the death of a good friend and great Scouter. As you know we worked together on a number of projects several years ago. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. He touched the lives of many and even though it may have been years ago - we remember. The best to you all.

Freda, Brad, Dylan, I am so sorry that Mike died this young. I feel so much for all of you that I could not say at the funeral. I love you all very much and hope you'll come visit me in Metairie. Love, Aunt Jeune

Dear Dunne Family:
It was my pleasure to have worked with Mike at WBRZ-TV during the early 90's. He was a great reporter and tremendous addition to our staff.
From what I understand he fought a truly brave battle the past few years.
I'm very sorry for your loss.

I am very sad to hear of the passing of Mike Dunne. I met Mike while working at WLSU in the early 1970's and will always remember him as being a great person to know. Before my retirement as an Environmental Scientist I was contacted by Mike for information on some environmental matters and it was great hearing from him then. Mike, we will all miss you and remember you for the wonderful and caring person you were. May peace be with you my friend.

This is Mike as I like to remember him -- standing in the marsh, working. He loved it. -- Freda
