Freda, Brad, and Dylan - When my mother told me of Mike's passing, my heart broke for you. Freda, you are one of the strongest ladies I know and you'll get through this. Your terrific boys will help you remember the best of your life with Mike. I didn't know him well but I know you were happy with him and he made you laugh. I'll give you a call soon and try to see you the next time I'm in Baton Rouge.

Freda,
Linda and I are so sorry for your -- and the world's -- loss. Mike was a true friend and we were proud to have him as best man at our wedding. He lived a full, rich and enriching life. As others have noted, he was a journalist's journalist; the profession so desperately needs more like him. He also leaves a magnificent legacy with future generations of journalists and the young men he helped mold through Scouting. God, I miss him.

I met Mike when my son Jason joined Troop 50 in 1996. Mike always brought out the best in people. I learned a lot about myself with his help and am the better for it. Thanks Mike.

Cancer only seemed to make Mike stronger and funnier. A lot of us from SEJ took that to mean we'd be seeing him in September. So so sorry we won't. Despite distance, he's been a wonderful colleague.

My heart goes out to Mike's family and also to his Baton Rouge Scouting "family" as well. I enjoyed working with Mike on District activities and admired his straightforward approach to issues. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Freida,
I was very saddened to learn of Mike's passing. It is still too soon for me to come to the services. Know that you, Brad and Dylan are in my thoughts and prayers.
Brad, Dylan,
I know the pain will pass - eventually. Hold on to the good memories and think of him and he will always be with you as I fell my dad is with me.

It has been my pleasure to know and work with Mike from the Alexandria Daily Town Talk to Capital City Press to teaching at Southern and LSU. Part of his legacy will be the standard of excellence he set as both a journalist and teacher.
My prayers are with you all.

To all in Mike's extended family...
know that he had a strong and lasting influence on many in his professional family--environmental journalists throughout the nation. He was a sweet, witty, and trusted friend. We will miss him dearly.

Mike was one of the easiest people to talk to--I always enjoyed our conversations. I will always appreciate how he encouraged his fellow-journalists. We'll miss him.

This is Mike as I like to remember him -- standing in the marsh, working. He loved it. -- Freda
