Mr Creese was a gentleman, a scholar and much more. Truthful, loyal to both staff and students, supportive and humane, he was devoted to his calling as an educator with a vision broader than most could have (e.g. in his work for, and with, other schools and educational organisations); he oozed dignity, and showed it to others, and had a true headmaster's awareness of individuality (e.g. in his handling of a certain famous New Zealand actor). I once asked Mr Creese whether he played in the second row on the rugby field; with sharp logic, he responded that he was too small', but in many other ways, he was a great man. It was a privilege to have him as my boss for 11 years.

I knew Nigel as a member of the team for promoting Shakespeare in Australia. I loved his wisdom ,compassion and zest for life. Later when he was not much younger than the fictional Lear he played the role with stunning aplomb. He will be dearly missed. A man who had many strands to his life so living life to the full.

A Headmaster for all, I was privileged to have been under his tutelage at Christ's College, Christchurch,New Zealand and honoured to have lunched with him when in Melbourne a couple of years ago.

An inspirational man to the end.

God will bless his soul.
