Helen and Mario send very belated acknowledgement of Dick's life, laughter, achievements and friendship. We were overseas at the time he so sadly died and so only learned of it recently.

I was very saddened to hear of Dick's untimely death. Only recently I co-hosted him and Elizabeth in Oxford for a mini-sabbatical. It was a great pleasure to have him with us and I know that they both enjoyed their contact with Hertford College and in return that Hertford colleagues much enjoyed having him as a visitor. Apart from his evident and important scientific contributions to human genetics, he was a true visionary in his promotion of mutation detection and founding of the journal, Mutation, but most of all for his persistent and ultimately highly successful promotion of the Human Variome Project. Its success will be the memorial that he, I am sure would wish for.
My greatest sympathy and condolences to Elizabeth and her family. I know from personal experience how hard it is to come to terms with losing one's lifetime partner.

I have been lucky to know Dick, and even to be invited both to his club and his home in Melbourne at one point. Dick was a great visionary and an enthusiast and I remember his favourite expression "stunning" when we coorganized a meeting at Skokloster in Sweden. At one point in time, in England, I remember Dick asked me if I thought it would be a good idea to start the journal Human Mutation, and I said I wasn't so sure, but Dick and coworkers proved my absolutely wrong.
My condolences to his family. They and all who interacted with Dick will hold him in fond memory.

My deepest condolences for the Cotton family. I knew him 20 years back and had frequent contact at several fonts. Will miss a great visionary, his enthusiasm and enormous energy.
