Dearest Tracy....what a shock to read this and how sad I feel. We were best friends at high school Trac and Traccy and we shared the same sense of humor and slightly disdainful outlook on the rest of the world. Although it's been over 40 years (OMG!) since last saw each other, our friendship was my saving grace throughout the not quite fitting in years.
In Form 1 we cared' for my large plastic spider that we had named Boris and had quite a bit of fun throwing it at other unsuspecting girls. I admired your brilliant artistic skill and was inspired to pursue my own creativity through writing and we set up a poetry club together at school. We were always together ...'Percival' and O'Brien'...close on the roll and close in real life . On Saturday afternoons I would ride my bike down Detby street to your house and we would bounce on your trampoline (what a luxury!) . We both hated Sherbert' but loved Daddy Cool'. I think you liked Cat Stevens and much as I did too? You did a beautiful sketch of him for me that I kept for decades until it eventually fell apart. And we loved animals..especially dogs. I can't remember the name of your dog...that will drive me crazy now!
Something happened at the start of form 6 and you didn't come back to school that year...I don't know what it was, but I don't think I saw you again after that. I would often see your little sister Lindy's writing in the Age and wondered how you were doing. On my daily commute down Bell street I will still sometimes detour up through Pascoe Vale, wondering if you still lived in the area, and sometimes I would google your name. That's what happened today...I googled your name.
Our lives took different paths Trac, but even though 4 decades separate our friendship , it was still a wonderful and formative part of my life. I hope you found some happiness in your years on this earth. I have a million funny stories to tell you that will make you laugh, and a few sad ones as well.
I'll whisper a few tonight. X
