Mark Tyler Schmidt
Pebble Beach
Mark Tyler, 29, born February 5, 1983 in Monterey, passed away to peace and healing on Saturday, March 16, 2012.
He will be remembered by all those he touched as a generous and caring individual and a wonderful son whose dry sense of humor kept everybody on their toes and in tears.
He attended Serendipity Preschool, Junipero Serra School, and graduated from Palma High School in 2001.
He served his country with honor, valor and distinction as a high-and-tight Marine Corporal without personal concern and always put others first. His journey from the Marine Corps led Mark to the Commemorative Air Force where he flew and worked as a crew-chief on the Red Nose P-51, Dauntless Dive Bomber, and many T-6's.
Mark's passion for aircraft and flying was evident from an early age and he earned his private pilot license in 2002. After serving his country proudly in the Marine Corps, Mark continued his flying education in Bainbridge, Georgia where he became a certified crop dusting pilot. His flying or "stick and rudder" skills impressed instructors, colleagues, and clients alike. His talent and over-the-top sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met and he will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who loved him.
He is survived by his loving parents, Mark and Sally Schmidt; brother, Ryan Schmidt; sister, Sondra Schmidt, and nephew, Jake Schmidt; grandmothers, Joanne Schmidt and Barbara Potts, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many treasured friends.
Please join family and friends for a celebration of Mark's life on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 4:00 p.m., at Sanctuary Bible Church, 8340 Carmel Valley Road, (at Schulte Road), Carmel, CA 93923.
Burial with Military Honors will be Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m., at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.

Im sorry to find out this late about your loss of a great kid. We met him at dobbins air force base in Ga 2004. We had great time shooting at the range riding in his modified Jeep and kept him fed and treated him like our son and great friend. I was reminded by the birthday reminder app and wanted to wish him happy birthday.
God bless you all and sorry for your loss♡

Mark, thank you for taking the time to call me in Atlanta to tell me the sad news about your son. I know that you and your family are deeply affected by this.
As you know, I became acquainted with Mark while he was stationed here. While I never met you and Sally in person, I do remember our phone conversations about Mark.
I will always remember Mark for his deep passion for flying. Even after he left Atlanta, he continued to call me from time to time to tell me about his latest adventures in flying and his travels about the country.
My heart goes out to you and I hope that you will find healing as time goes by.

Mark and Sally, I was truly honored to be a part of the funeral service for your Marine son, Mark Tyler, today at the San Joaquin National Cemetery. When you look at the number of Americans that have ever lived, by comparison only a very few have worn the uniform in defense of the country. It is a unique and select club. Then when you consider the size of the Marine Corps, you are in an even more select group - what we call, quoting Shakespeare, "A Band of Brothers."
God Bless you and I know the Lord will continue to comfort and heal you.

Dear Sally and Mark,
Mark Tyler's service today was beautiful. Mark Tyler was honored and God was glorified. I learned about the man he had become, from the boy that I knew. He was loved by so many, and lived so much in his short time on this earth. My prayers continue to be with you. May God care for you tenderly and lovingly.

Mark was a very special young man as he progressed in his studies at Palma. Many might say he was a quiet respectful young man and that was true. But he was much more than that as he was gifted with a grand sense of humor as well as sense of the moment that was well beyond his years. He was the cause for many to reflect and appreciate what we all hold as special and unique. Thanks for sharing Mark with the Palma community. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
