As a former cruiser at the Beacon in the late sixties and early seventies, I would like to add my deepest sympathy. Along with being a celebrity at the Beacon, he was a member of the Lions Club and started his own Glaucoma foundation. I find this most memorable as I have a younger brother who has glaucoma and I am getting regular checkups from surgery for a detached retina. I am planning to see him again someday with a cleared vision.

Call It!!

In Honor of J.C. Stroble, a Spartanburg, SC Legend

two simple words
from a man
with a complicated life...
a man who
never let anything
stand in his way...
who met a daily challenge
with
love in his heart
and a smile on his face

legally blind yet
he saw
a beauty in the world around him
that most of us
take
for granted...

to see him
was to
see the strength of God
to see that
no matter what you go through
He can and will
make things possible
if only you believe

today
I honor your life
I applaud your
perseverance
and I
pray for your family
knowing that
not only will they miss you
but so will
the rest of the world that smiled
every time
we heard you
say those two words...

Call It!!!

Love, thoughts and prayers are going out to the Stroble family.

R.I.P. J.C.

From Don Savant and Family

August 28, 2013
My first remembrance of eating at the Beacon, as a child, was close to the time that JC began his employment there. As a customer for over 55 years, with a reputation of eating there VERY often, I had the honor of having many conversations with JC about faith in Jesus, our families, his health and many other things. I wrote a song, "Call It," about JC to be used as a promotion for the JC Stroble Glaucoma Awareness Foundation. He told me that the song was played at his 50th Wedding Anniversary. JC was unique in many ways, but one of his best qualities is that he loved people and made friends so easily. I am thankful for his friendship. I pray for the comfort of the Holy Spirit to be with each member of his family and for all of us, who knew and loved him. I look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.

August 28, 2013
Death leaves heartache only God can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. There are things that we don't want to happen but have to accept, things we don't want to know but have to learn, and people we can't live without but have to let go.
August 28, 2013
Mrs. Stroble, my sister, I once heard the one of my mentors, the late Rev. Dr. W.L. Wilson share a story about "seasonal things". The object of his story was the rose and according to him the rose start out as a bud in the spring and during the warmth of the summer, blossoms into one of natures wonders because of its incredible beauty and fragrance. The rose, beautiful as it is when it is in full bloom will loose it's petals as fall approaches and with the approach of winter all of it's beauty fades and it dies in the winter. However long the cold months last the rose folds up and it appears all life is gone. But with the first glint of spring, this same rose that appeared to be dead buds once again and becomes a beautiful flower. Our Brother is going thru "his" winter now, when God's "great gettin up morning comes (spring)" our Brother will once again began to blossom, however, this time he will be at home with the Master Gardner Himself, Jesus the Christ! Be blessed and be strong! Love you all.

August 28, 2013
From the very first time I ever ate at the beacon in Elementary School, until now as an adult, Mr. JC still made me nervous when it came to placing my order... not because he was intimidating, but becasuse you knew if it came your turn and you didn't know what to order or how to order he would stop the line or you'd have to step out of line and get yourself together because he was a mover and a shaker and you needed to be ready to order when he said those famous two words, "CALL IT!" he kept a smile on your face and created a loving workplace. It breaks my heart to learn of his passing away, but I take joy in knowing I had the pleasure of meeting a Spartanburg Icon and I know he is smiling and making every all the loved ones gone on before him smile as well. The family will be in our prayers. God Bless You!

With Deepest Sympathy,
R. Nicole Wilkins & Family

I was sadden to hear about JC. I was praying for him when I heard he had been in the hospital. He will truly be missed. I've known him since I first ate at the Beacon as a teenager in the mid 70s. I moved away but I brought my daughter and then later my grandchildren to have the experience of "call-it". My prayers are with his family and friends.
