A life well lived. I so appreciated "Mr. Sweeney's" kindness and encouragement even to those of us who were not great athletes. His sense of humor aways prevailed, which I now know is perhaps the most important attribute a person can have. He will be missed by many. Peace to the Sweeney Family, Lyell Fox, Class of '71

Sweeney Family,
Fran was a great gentlman, always friendly, funny and always remembered eveyons's name. Fran was a Waterford icon, no, no, he was the Waterford icon.
He will be sadly missed by all that new him and those who knew of him.
Rest in peace Fran till we meet again.

My sympathies to the entire Sweeney family for your loss. A great teacher, coach and mentor. He loved his job and he truly loved the kids and took a special interest in each and every one of them. Times were much simpler back then but kids today need positve role models like Fran more than ever in their lives. I have fond memories of many sporting events including ski trips that would not have occured without Fran's support. Over the years he impacted so many in a positive way. I cannot remember any past win-loss records but I do remember a man that truly cared for all of the kids in our community. My class (class of 1979) loved and respected him so much he was included in our graduation. Fran will live on forever in our hearts. With sincere sympathy.

My heart is heavy as I join you in this moment of sorry. Mr. Sweeney had an incrediable impact on my life as a track and cross country coach in the late 50's. I carry the drive that Fran implanted in my heart even today after 50 years of working with children and hearts. Thank you Fran. rest in peace. John Thomas Poeton

When I think of people who had a positive influence on me during my formative years, I of course think of Mr. Sweeney. He taught excitement for athletics and competition, balanced with humanity and kindness. He made people feel special and helped them believe in themselves. He gave his time and love to his family, his students, his teams and his community. As many have said, it lead to a life well lived, and to being well loved. My deepest condolences to the entire Sweeney family.
