East Lyme - Robert A. Reifsnyder, 92, of Niantic, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Beechwood Manor in New London.
Robert was born May 21, 1920, in New York City, the son of the late Earl L. Reifsnyder and Alvera (Snaederman) Reifsnyder.
Mr. Reifsnyder, a U.S. Navy veteran of World II, served in the Pacific on the destroyer USS Shields DD-596. He was the oldest of 10 surviving veterans who served aboard the ship in the war. Mr. Reifsnyder was also an active member of the American Legion Turner-Tinker Post 128 in Niantic, where he was chaplain for 19 years. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He was an accountant, retiring from Federal Paper Board Co., in 1983.
Robert is survived by his wife, the former Sistine Domenick, who he married in 1943; a daughter, Carolyn Russo and her husband, Robert, of East Lyme; a son Robert Reifsnyder and his wife, Margit, of Newton, Mass.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Russo, Krisin Olsen, Stephen Russo, Adrian Reifsnyder, and Evan Reifsnyder; and three great-granddaughters, Livia, Katelyn, and Lindsay Olsen.
The funeral will assemble at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, 10 Haigh Ave., Niantic. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Niantic. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Reifsnyder's memory may be made to the American Legion Post 128, York St., Niantic, CT 06351.

My heartfelt condolences to beloved Sis,Carolyn,Bob and family.
Bob will absolutely be missed.He was a"fixture"at our parish of St.Agnes!
What a splendid example od strong faith in God and his church our wonderful couple(Bob&Sis)so unstintingly gave no matter the weather.
They delivered the message(even beating the mailman out of the old adage.....!!!)
Robert may you rest in the peace,joy and love of our heavenly Father's kingdom.Your presence will always be around us for I know you will not want to"miss out" on current events!
