Robert Simons
Dr. Robert "Bob" M. Simons, age 94 of Palm Desert, CA passed away June 26, 2017 at Eisenhower Medical Center.
He was born November 16, 1922 in Pittsburg, PA, the son of the late Joseph Lare and Lillian Marchand. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen Madeline Simons.
Bob is survived by his 6 nieces and nephews: Marc Rosen, (NY) Martha Dennis (Doug) (OH), Tom Rosen (Cheryl) (NY), Debbie Johnson (Uwe) (Germany), Madeline Johnson, (MD) and Donna Beagle (Rob) (MD). Bob had 7 grand- nephews and 6 grand- nieces as well as 3 great -grand- nieces.
Bob served in the Coast Guard, Army Air Corps, Navy, and was a decorated war hero. He earned the rank of Lt. Commander in the Navy and received an honorable transfer to Retired Reserves. He served in World War II as a pilot and saved the lives of his Co-Pilot and Navigator as he parachuted out of a downed plane. He received a Purple Heart, Air Medal, and European Air Offensive with Bronze star. Bob will be buried in full uniform at Arlington National Cemetery.
Bob obtained his PHD at the University of Southern California and was a professor of Industrial Psychology at USC. Bob met his beloved wife Helen at USC and they were together for 54 years until her death in 2008. Theirs was a love story. They both left behind friends and family that adored them. We hope you are dancing in heaven together.
