I have known Bill Bates since I was a teenager when he purchased all his tailored made suits from my father in Montgomery,Mr. Cunningham of Cunningham the Tailor. When he heard that one of the young men that sold him Turkey boxes was dating a young lady in Montgomery;Bill asked him what her name was and when Morgan told him Bill said "you better be good to her 'cause I know her family and I will take care of you if you mistreat her. When I married Morgan Edwards in 1958 Bill and Teresa were there. Over the years Morgan helped present some of those Turkeys . Bill was a good friend. When cancer took Morgan last Aug. Bill said to me " I loved that guy he was a great salesman but he was also a honest one. Bill Bates you will be missed by so many that loved your sense of humor, your wonderful smile your work ethics and your love of life and family. Rest in peace my old friend.

My condolences to the Bates family. Every trip between my home in New Orleans and Auburn University, where I attended in the 70s, included a stop at Bates for smoked turkey sandwiches with chips and potato salad. Bates House of Turkey is still a must stop whenever we are passing on I-65. Thank you Mr. Bill.
