Jack Placette Obituary

Jack La Placette, was born in Santa Monica, California. He graduated from Loyola University in Los Angeles, California in 1951. In 2011 Jack was inducted into Loyola Marymount Hall of Fame for his football accomplishments. Jack served in the Coast Guard during the Korean war and after his honorable discharge had a machine shop business in the City of Industry for 42 years. Jack was married to his wife, Helen, for 52 years. Together they had a rich and wonderful life surrounded by their daughter, Renee, her husband Todd, their three sons, Brandon, Zach and Alex, and their daughter, Suzanne, her husband Eric and their son Eric Michael. Days before his death he was blessed to meet his precious two month old great granddaughter, Aria Marie. Jack was "one of a kind". He had a deep, strong voice that was unmistakable and when he walked into a room everyone noticed. He had a passion for reading, golf, hunting, fishing, traveling, backgammon, and music. But, the greatest pleasure in his life was being surrounded by his adoring family and cherished friends. In addition to his children, Jack is survived by his sister, Rose Marie and her husband Charles. He was loved deeply by his niece, Michele and his nephews, John and Charles. Jack, who had just turned 85, passed peacefully in Georgetown, Texas on January 19, 2014. Jack will be missed beyond words but held deeply in the hearts of all of us fortunate enough to have known him. He blessed our lives. A memorial Mass will be held for Jack on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 43775 Deep Canyon Rd, Palm Desert, California. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to your favorite charity on Jack's behalf.

I met Jack at Stud Bolt Mfg around 1969 or '70 when I came to California to work at Elevator Equipment Co, aka "EECO," and was immediately impressed with his deep, strong voice! How well I remember it! I visited Jack many times over an 18 year association before moving to Oregon in my retirement. It had to be an act of God that brought the news of Jack's passing, because we do not subscribe to the Desert Sun!. A neighbor brought the paper over today here in Sky Valley and I came across Jack's obituary. We offer our sincere condolences to his family.

Enjoyed playing golf with Jack at Chaparral Country Club. He was always critical of my golf swing in a very constructive way. Once he moved to the great state of Texas we truly missed his vibrant personality.
