Maximiliano "Max" Lopez
Maximiliano "Max" Lopez passed away March 7, 2014, in Duarte, Calif. He was born Oct. 12, 1945, in Harlingen, Texas. His parents were Simon and Lupe Lopez. He married Jessie Lopez in Palm Springs more than 40 years ago. He is survived by his brothers Simon and Lupe Lopez of Fresno; his sisters Helen Diaz of Fresno and Rosalinda Alvarez of Oceanside; his children Max Lopez Jr. of Fresno, Catherine Lopez of Fresno, Matthew Lopez of Palm Springs, Gilbert Lopez of San Diego and Jacqueline Lopez of Azusa; and seven grandchildren. His father and mother and brother John Lopez preceded him in death. He graduated from Central Union High School in 1964 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965. He served on active duty from 1965 - 1972 and was in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1972-1986. He was employed by Palm Springs Unified School District for 22 years where he was the chief shop steward for the Teamsters and represented the maintenance and operations unit. He was also the vice president of the REEP board and president of the Insurance Advisory Committee. He was a loving father and husband, but above all else, he was and always will be a full pledged Marine. Visitation will be Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Wiefels and Sons chapel at 690 Vella Rd., Palm Springs, CA 92264. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 Friday, March 14, 2014 in St. Theresa's Church, 2800 Ramon Rd. Palm Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the City of Hope at 1500 E. Duarte Rd., Duarte, CA 91010.
