Just adding. He was such a great man. I never realized he lived in Quincy. I have a pancreas problem. I can see he had to suffer some pain. To Kerry, I didn't know your name. My sympathy to all. Even Natalie, even though a marriage breaks up, your love doesn't. I think it's Lindsey who was born around the same time as my daughter. He was one superb anchorman. I remember seeing the team of Chet and Natalie always. My sympathy to the family and friends.

Dawn, Dana, Lindsay and Kerry, I am deepely saddened by your loss. Chet was a childhood friend and neighbor on Jay Street. We were classmates throughout our school age years. I remember him performing on Teen Age Barn in Schenectady almost every Friday. A great entertainer, singer, and very humble person. When visiting my wife's gravesite at St. Stanislaus i surely will stop to say a prayer or two for on old Friend Chet. In our heritage language I say, "Spoczywaj w pokoju" which means "Rest In Peace" Bob Reidy

My first (news) Floor Director job (1966) was running the teleprompter and cueing Chet weekdays on Newsday at 1PM on WTOP-TV, Washington, DC.
I remember when he told me he was leaving the station...that he was hired at WCBS-TV in New York.
You could tell then that he was a first-rate talent (with class)and was always well-liked by all who knew him.

January 26, 2014
This has been somewhat of a ''long good-bye'' to Chet for those of us who reside ' on the 'other side of the screen.' In some ways we lost him when the Chet/Nat team left TV. The news has not been the same since then. My condolences to Kerry, to his three daughters and to Natalie. Truly, Love is never lost---but it does take a while to realize that when the one who is loved is no longer able to 'walk with us.''.
January 26, 2014
After life-long residency in Massachusetts, I and my husband, relocated to Florida in 2011. Our local newspaper, The Daily Sun, profiled Chet's passing as a 'notable death.' How true!

As baby-boomers, we grew up with Chet and Nat. When their family circumstances changed, we still enjoyed seeing Chet on NECN.

Rest in peace Chet.

There are times in life when you are fortunate to have the opportunity to meet a very special person. A person you admire for all they have accomplished in their life and their contributions to so many. Chet Curtis is one of those people. He was a man who was very successful and yet remained humble and warm to all those he met. He was loved by all New Englanders for so many decades. There will never be another Chet and will always be remembered and missed by all.

To his family, I am sorry for your loss and offer you my deepest condolences.

To my friend Chet, it was my honor to have you as my friend and will always cherish the memories. Rest in peace.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
January 26, 2014
We never met Chet personally, but we did experience his warm spirit from a short distance when we were at the Beth Israel Hospital Maternity Department on Sunday May 24, 1981. We watched him and Natalie preparing to leave the hospital with their new baby daughter. He was so happy as he held his new baby. He generously thanked everyone who came by to wish him well. Some were nurses; some were doctors; some were aides and maintenance persons. Of course we'll remember that day as our son's birthday, and we'll remember Chet's warm and outgoing spirit shown to everyone. We pray that your sweet memories outpace your sadness.

Sincerely,
Jane and David Castiglioni (Quincy, MA)

Growing up in Boston Area: Chet Curtis, Natalie Jacobsen and company introduced by the equally legendary Ernie Anderson as the stirring NewsCenter5 theme "And You" hit the airwaves meant it was indeed 'News time in Boston' and you were going to get informed by the best in the biz for a quarter century/a half dozen U.S. presidencies, but my fondest memory of Mr. Curtis was his appearance on WCVB's kids show "Jabberwocky" in the early 1970s/early into his tenure in Newham and how warmly and wonderfully he interacted with Frank (the protagonist puppet on the show) talking about his job - it was awesome! We will all miss you, sir... A heartfelt Goodnight and Godspeed, Chet. Condolences to your many friends and family.
January 25, 2014

If you want a donation I can give a little. If you contact me so I give to the right organization. I learned he lived in Quincy in the end. I live in Quincy, MA.

Dear Curtis Family,

I was saddened to hear of Chet's death. I never met him personally but he was part of my upbringing. Do you know how when you are a child and you hear the news on and the person is just part of your life and your memories? I am sorry that part of that is gone. In 2007, I lost my mother and my father both and I know how you must be feeling. I will be praying for you and I'm so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are cared about.

January 25, 2014
My recollection of Chet goes way back to Amsterdam NY when he was a young boy and would come over
to my play with my cousin John who lived upstairs. He was a cute kid with a mop of curly hair. He and my cousin would walk to school together every day and one day he didn't come out of the house and John discovered that his father had just died. I always remembered his sad story. I was always so happy to see how well he did in his career and watched he and Nat on the news each night. My
condolences to his daughters.
January 25, 2014

January 25, 2014
I knew Chet at the old channel 5 (WHDH) and later at WCVB when I freelanced for the 6 and 11 O:Clock news. He was always grace under pressure, nothing got under his skin and he had a great sense of humor. I looked up to him, marvelled at his on air presence and the thoughtful-understated manner with which he read the news. He leaves a tremendous legacy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
January 25, 2014

But now he is in a better place and no longer in pain,R.I.P and may you be a shining star for your children and grandchildren
January 25, 2014
For someone I never met personally Chet had a place in the hearts of all Bostonians. For years we watched Chet and Natalie... announcing their engagement, getting married, the birth of their first child, the death of Natalie's mother, his piloting his family to their Nantucket home, hosting so many special causes and then and then so very sadly their split. They were people we thought of as family. May the angels welcome Chet home. We'll all miss you but remember you always. RIP good man.
January 25, 2014
We were in Chet's & Lennie's (1st wife) apartment in Rochester NY commiserating with them because Chet had just gotten his draft notice when we saw on TV that my reserve unit was being recalled. As it turned out, Chet didn't have to go because Lennie was expecting their child. He took me to the radio station where he worked (WHAM) to get a tape of the newscast recalling me.
Excellent radio newsman. Wonderful friend. Rest in peace.
January 25, 2014

I was with friends at Marina Bay when your Dad was walking by holding his dog. A friend called out to him and although I don't believe any of us really knew him, he came right over and was gracious, warm and kind in his comments. A gem of a gentleman. I watched your father for years on Channel 5 and then later at NECN. His relaxed and easy style delivering the news made watching him a pleasure. My sincere condolences.

My condolences to the family. It was a shock to hear about Chet's passing.
I was a waitress at Callahan's Restaurant in Needham when I met Chet and Nat. I waited on them. Chet and his crew would come in for lunch almost every day and at night he would come in with Nat. Such great people they were very sociable and just over all nice. Chet was a gentlemen's gentlemen. Rest in peace.

To the Curtis Family,

I started my television career as a Consumer Reporter sitting next to your dad and Natalie. And I was greener than green! But they always saw their job as making all of us look good, a quality not always present in anchors I later learned. They eased my way and a 25 Year career began. In all that time, I never met better. Your father, especially, was so easy going, warm, funny and unflappable. My your happy memories sustain you all.
January 25, 2014
Our condolences to the Curtis and extended family. Chet was a Boston icon and very much loved by the folks of Boston.

I was blessed to work with Mr Curtis several times --back when I worked for MDA--he came out to Framingham a couple of years to host our Recognition Event--was such fun to be around--he and Natalie Jacobson were both so wonderful with the families and individuals affected by dystrophy....and he was very kind to all of us...will have those memories in my heart forever...
January 25, 2014
The man who on every broadcast made me feel that he truly cared about each and everyone of us, you will never be forgotten. Rest now.

My deepest condolences to all of Chet's family during this most difficult time. In my parent's home watching the news always meant Chet and Nat. My parents always trusted Channel 5 for an honest news hour. There was a certain feeling when you listened to Chet, that he cared about the people that he was reporting the new too.
January 25, 2014
heaven has another angel. God bless the family and the Channel 5 news team. Chet was a special person. forever in my prayers.
January 25, 2014
For Chet, a wonderful, compassionate, honest and trust worthy man who sought to bring the best to this chaotic world. We will miss you Chet!
January 25, 2014
I graduated college in 1967 in Boston and started my adult life there. Chet was a trusted news source and a part of family discussions from then on with his accurate and trusted news casting. He and Natalie were like part of the family for 30+ years. He set a standard and will be sorely missed.
January 25, 2014
Chet
You were a breed of reporter we don't see anymore. You reported the news with truth and style and not your own political agenda. My wife and I wish you God's speed. You were a part of our family which we will dearly miss.
Kevin and Sis Hussey
January 25, 2014
He knew who he was and he did not try to impress anyone he was there to tell the news and that he did well . I wish there were more reporters like him he was a class act and his girls are just like him .I wish people like him could live forever we need more men like him in this world, you will be missed by so many people that loved him.
January 25, 2014
Thank you Chet Curtis for making me love the news. I never met you in person. Yet, each time I turned on to watch the evening news, I believed you were right there talking to me.

My deepest sympathies and prayers are with your family, friends, and fans.
January 25, 2014
Isn't it strange how someone we never personally knew can have a hold on our hearts. Chet was that type of person. I was shocked and extremely saddened to hear of his passing. My sympathies and prayers go to his family and friends - but especially to his daughters whom he loved more than words could express. May he rest in joyous peace. Maybe he can sing a song or two with my dad who recently passed and who also loved to sing.
January 25, 2014
God Speed Chet....forever loved and never forgotten! What a legacy you have left behind. My sincere condolences to his beautiful family.....thank you for sharing him with all of us.

Chet Curtis was one of the great newscaster along with his wife Natalie. I remember Chet always want to talk on the air and Natalie would say to him say good night Chet. My sympathy to his family.
January 24, 2014
My sincere condolences to the
"Curtis" family. My family and I would always watch Chet and Nat on Channel Five. They were the best newscasters on television. I so enjoyed it when something would be said during the broadcast that would make Chet, Nat and Dickie crack up.It would make me laugh just watching them. My family still watches Channel Five New and also watched Chet on cable. I know so well the pain that your Dad endured during his battle with that dreadful disease. My husband lost his battle to Pancreatic Cancer in 2008 who was only 57. Now he is at Peace more than likely reporting whats going on in Heaven. To the Curtis family and Nat rely on all the memories you have made over the years, as they will help you during this time of sorrow. Chet will always be with you, All of New England will never forget him! God Bless you all. RIP Chet.
January 24, 2014

I knew Chet for 20+ years while he spent time on Nantucket, Chet and Nat's 2nd home. Chet was an everyday man that had a smile, handshake for everysone. We shared many a cup of coffee at the airport and a few "sasperillia's" at his Nantucket home. It was a pleasure to have known Chet. I will miss our Chet's chats, coffee's or sasperillia's. Humanity has lost a great a great man and heaven has gained so much more. Rest in Peace Chet.

Chet was such a remarkable person with lots of knowledge and journalism. then in the 90's I watched Chet and Nat at 5pm and 6pm. at the 5:30pm slot with Brian Leary and Heather Kahn. I like the Chet & Nat, Dick Albert and Mike Lynch every evening. Chet made us so interested in the news every evening when he was at channel 5. I always wanted to find out what the days news was during the prior day or the same day when Chet was anchoring with Natalie Jacobson. Prayers for Chet's family. God bless. RIP Chet Curtis.

Everybody in my era loved Chet and Nat. I was a cop for 39 years and met both of them at one time or another on News Worthy Cases. Chet had a way to make U feel comfortable by not asking things that I could not answer. He was a "COOL" guy! Also ran into him at a Marina Bay Restaurant and he could not be any nicer! God Bless Chet and thanks for providng news for us yuppies! Brian Hickman

My family watch Nat and Chet every evening. They were part of our family. So down to earth. My cousin and family were on their way back to Chicago and meet Chet and Nat at the airport. They have twin boys who were only 2 months old at the time and they came up to them and were so kind and warm to them making a lot of the twins. That's who Chet and Nat were.....Fond memories......

I grew up right outside of Boston, in Needham, where channel 5 and Chet Curtis were such a big part of everybody's lives. Chet was a true class act and the definition of what an anchorman should be. He will be greatly missed.
January 24, 2014
I didn't know the Curtis family, outside of watching the 6:00 and 11:00 news, but I did have an encounter with them when I was a teenager (about 21 yrs ago) and it struck me how kind Chet was. My horse had been badly injured and was at Tufts Veterinary Hospital in Grafton. On one of my visits, a young girl was also there visiting her equine companion. She was so concerned about my horse that she asked her Dad if she could come see us and ask me a few questions. The girl was Chet and Nat's daughter. I will never forget how real and genuine Chet was that day. He showed a sincere interest in my situation and showed genuine care and concern, as did his daughter. I have never forgotten that. I am so very sorry for your loss.
January 24, 2014
Feel like I lost a member of my family although we never met. You did and lived it well, Mr. Curtis!

When I was little girl I remember our family always watching Channel 5 news with Chet and Natalie. As I grew up and still now do watch Channel 5. Chet Curtis paved the way for so many fine broadcasters from the Boston area and he is such a true Boston icon. May you rest in peace and may God comfort and bless your family during this most difficult time.
January 24, 2014
To Kerry and Chet's daughters, I extend my deepest sympathy. May all the wonderful memories you hold near and dear to your hearts bring you some small measure of comfort during this most difficult time. I grew up watching Chet and Nat for decades like so many others. They were like family even though our paths never crossed; that is, until he moved to Quincy and our paths crossed on different occasions. What an amazing man he was. He was a generous, humble gentleman who could tell a story like no other. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to sing. He will be missed by so many of his neighborhood friends in Quincy. The WCVB Chronicle piece last evening was a testament to Chet's professional career. It brought me to tears. He was that same man when the cameras weren't rolling. He had a wonderful gift of making whoever was in his company feel very special.

No more suffering…….rest in peace, Chet!!
January 24, 2014
Chet was like a big brother. Always there with his heart and hand. He will be missed on the docks and throughout the marina. Our love and best to his daughters, their families and our special friend Kerry. Love, Gary & Beth (5 O'Clock)

January 24, 2014
Am feeling like I lost an uncle.

There has never been anybody better than Chet Curtis at delivering the news in New England.

We grieve with his surviving family members, all of whom have every reason to be extremely proud of this man. Chet Curtis aimed to make our lives better, and never missed his mark.
January 24, 2014
Our family TV was always on so whether I was arguing with my parents as a teen about my curfew in 1972 or the day I lost my dad, the day I got married, my first child, my divorce, etc. I realize that throughout all my life events good and bad you were always there each day with my complete attention or sometimes just on in the backround while I took care of other things in & out of the room where my TV was at the time. It was nice to have a reassuring constant in my life and feel a chunk of my heart going with you. Rest in Peace Chet. I will miss you.
January 24, 2014
Chet Curtis, a gentleman of integrity and purpose.
You will be greatly missed by all the eyes that saw and the ears that heard your goodness.

Chet was such a kind, caring person and so generous with his time. I ran a charity karaoke contest in Weymouth and Chet was wonderful enough to serve as a judge at two of the events. The people in attendance just flocked to him and he was always so gracious. He will be missed very much.
January 24, 2014
We extend our deepest sympathy to the Curtis Family, Natalie Jacobson and his extended family at WCVB and colleagues from other stations and media. Chet was a true icon who not only reported news well, but also shared it so factually and explaining it so well, that all watching and/or listening to him, were able to understand the details. It seemed as if he was talking with us directly. It is heartwarming to see so many tributes to him. Well earned Chet! May you rest in peace.

I think for me and, for so many, here in Boston and New England, Mr. Curtis's passing is yet another marker, in the passing of time.... With my age group, growing up, we were a Channel 5 household. Mr. Curtis and Ms. Jacobson were in our living room, every night. Their faces, so familiar.. You new those voices... You trusted what was being said..... The one, among many things, that Boston and the surrounding communities, has going for it is, that there IS a sense of community, a sense of family... and with Mr. Curtis passing, it almost feels like we've lost a family member too..... It made me stop and reflected on my my father and what a great man he was also.... Although I did not know Mr. Curtis and Ms. Jacobson, I wanted to extend my condolences to Mr. Curtis's family and, I will raise a glass to "Chet and Nat" RIP Mr. Curtis...
January 24, 2014

To The Entire Curtis Family;
Words cannot truly express the loss of Chet. LIke many New Englanders, Chet was brought into our living rooms each and every night via WCVB Channel 5 newscasts. His personality was true to the core. I will always remember meeting Chet up at one of the Quincy jaunts. It was then my wife and I met Chet and he was not shy to talk about his journey into broadcast news, his life and times with Natalie and of course the birth of his children. He was such a likeable person both on and off the camera. He was really one of a kind. He will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.
God Bless,

I was shocked to hear the news of the passing of the great anchorman Chet Curtis. He really brought credibility to the news in Boston. He truly will be missed. Local news anchors need to take a lesson from this great anchorman in reporting the news. I have no doubt he is covering the news in a much better place now. May the Love and Peace of our dear Savior bring his comfort to the family of this great newsman at this time of sadness. Rest in Peace Chet, you were a great credit to your profession.

I started my career at WCVB in 1978 and no one was greener! But Chet and Nat saw their job as making all of us look good, no matter how green! Chet was especially "the soul of calm" and we all felt that same confidence as a result. I had a career f 25 years, not all at Channel 5. But never did I work with such a supportive anchor team. Chet was the easiest of men to know and trust and love. God speed, dear friend. Paula Lyosn

I was an intern at WCVB-TV for Midday News in 1982. I remember talking to Chet a few times - he was a respected journalist and gentleman. I remember seeing him and Jack Hynes behind the anchor desk one time wearing a suit jacket and tie and shorts - the TV audience could not see what they were wearing below the waist and it was funny. My sympathies go out to his family and friends. It was a privilege to work with him, even for a short time.
