Yesterday was Neal's Birthday! We never will forgott him. We miss him a lot. Also we miss our Sunday evening calls. He and Mumzie where like our second parents. More than 22 years we had a special friendship between the Houbolts and German Schultz family. They wher grandpa and grand mum for our Kids Mark and Adrian.

To the Houbolts: I met Mr. Houbolt only once...and that was 20 years ago when I purchased his King Air F90 and Beech Baron (as an aircraft dealer working in Dallas.) Being originally from Chicago I looked forward to a trip to Minooka, and I've never forgotten the integrity of the man I met. We had one discussion about the deal in his office, shook hands across his desk, and finished the most straightforward business deal I've ever been involved in...before or since. When I spied a 1969 issue of Life Magazine on his shelf, and gazed at the Apollo Lunar Lander on the cover, Mr. Houbolt casually remarked that "My brother invented that..." It was such an outlandish claim, I didn't even comment on it, but sure enough, many years later I saw a TV interview with his brother on the topic, and the Houbolt voice was unmistakable. There are few people who stick with you after only one meeting, but Neal Houbolt certainly was one.

To all of the Houbolt family:
I am so sorry to hear about your father. He truly was a gentleman. I have fond memories of him and Mumzie at the Harley festivals when Judie Sanko would ask me to come with her, because Uncle Mike was always busy. He always made me feel welcome, and had a big smile. My parents always had nice things to say about both of your parents. I know he will be missed by all of you siblings, and many more people too, so may God bless you with peace as you go through your grieving process. Sincerely, with love, sympathy and caring thoughts, Pat Whalen
