Clermont “Frenchie” Veilleux, age 76, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully and surrounded by his beloved family and longtime friend Guy Rouseau on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Clermont was born on October 27, 1939 in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada. One of 13 children, Clermont came to the United States in 1963 to play for the Norwalk Home Oilers, whom in 1968 settled into the newly established Wonderland of Ice and became the Bridgeport Home Oilers, with whom he played left wing and wore number 15. A man of many names throughout his life he was first dubbed the “Flying Frenchman” for his agility on the ice. Clermont played all five seasons with the team before it disbanded the season after its Mobil Cup trophy win. Clermont followed the sport through which he made a name until the end, watching games on television and attending local ones most weekends. An avid golfer as well, Clermont could be found practicing his swing or playing a quick 9-holes at Fairchild Wheeler. Clermont retired as a self-employed carpet mechanic. But it will be his larger than life personality for which he’ll be remembered best, a personality with which he regaled everyone with whom he crossed paths with jokes and stories. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Clermont is survived by his wife of over fifty years, Lisette; son Stephan (Heather English); daughters Nathalie (Kenneth McCarthy) and Jennifer (Michael Cavallaro); grandchildren Jordan, Madeleine, and Patrick; many beloved family members in his native Canada. The family would like to thank Clermont’s many friends who visited, called, or had them in their prayers. Special thanks to Dr. Daniel Rudolph, Dr. Justin Persico and nurse Donna, Dr. Joung and the staff at Smilow Radiology, the staff of Bridgeport Hospital Tower West 7th Floor and VITAS for all their support, love, and prayers. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00a.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Interment will be private. Friends may call Sunday from 4p.m. to 8p.m., in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VITAS Healthcare Hospice, 99 Hawley Lane, Stratford, CT 06614.
