I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Mr. DeVito as I was a student of Ben Franklin and Brien McMahon High School, graduating in 75. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of your family.

Remembering Mr. DeVita fondly as a BMHS Class of 1974 graduate. He was a wonderful school administrator and very patient listener to my constant suggestions of curriculum improvement. Thoughts and prayers to the DeVita family.

I was a student at Ben Franklin and later Brien McMahon, while Mr Devita was principal. I always thought he was a good guy but never realized how accomplished he was.

May you always happily remember him and follow his lead.

All the best.

To the Family of Mr. DeVita I am truly touched in reading his life-story! We as his students had no idea what a treasure we walked among! With all that he accomplished in his wonderful life, he would have had every opportunity to be self-righteous and boastful, yet he was neither of those things! He was a teddy bear of a man, giving comfort, praise, and even in "stern" discipline it was easy to see his deeply caring heart in his eyes! I will always remember him with a smile in my heart and will pray for you, his loving family to heal through the grief knowing what an honor it was to know him. We will remember him at our 40yr Class Reunion later this year. ~Barb J Gradia BMHS Class of 1973

Joe was the person who hired me along with Mike Muro and Dr Forc. to begin my teaching career on 9/1/69 at BMHS which began with a 4 day teachers strike. 50% of us were BA step 1 and we had a lot to learn about the real world. Joe was great and they were great about teaching the art of teaching. Joe told us I will leave you alone and trust you but if you mess up I will be all over you. Fair he was. We learned so much from him in oh so many ways. In later years I communicated with Joe and the last time he reminded me that our most impotant gift of all is time.Thank you so much on bealf of the so many you touched. We are forever most grateful In Unity Always Bruce LeVine Mellion President Norwalk Federation of Teachers PS The holiday punch bowls were great.
