I met Cushing through the Cornell magic club, and our shared passion for sleight of hand kept us in touch for over 25 years. RIP Cushing; hope you're knocking them dead in the Pearly Gates with the classic material you favored.

I was privileged to be an undergraduate in two of Professor Strout's classes (Religion and Politics and the American Political Novel) in 1973 and 1974. He was a remarkable, inspiring teacher who, literally,"wowed" us in class with the depth and breadth of his insights and analysis. The material came alive. It is now 2014 and, decades after his classes, I still recall, vividly, my riveting experiences as a student in his seminars. I am so saddened to read of his passing but treasure my time as his student.

My whole family loved Cushing. He will be missed. We loved his sweetness, his intelligence, his erudition, his magic tricks, and the ever present twinkle in his eye. All sympathies to Jean, Nat, Ben, Nick and their family.

What a loss to us all!
Cush's lively wit and unusual insights always left us feeling inspired and a tad smarter after being at your house.
The quick back and forths between Jean and Cush are a model for a marriage always bubbling with ideas!
To play tennis, racquet ball or ping pong with tenacious Cushing will always live in our memories as well! Goodbye dear friend.

Cush will long outlive his 90 years in his friends' hearts as he will in ours. All our affection to you, Jean,
