It is with great sadness, yet, fond recollection of both Wally and Marie that I've just, today, learned of their passing. As they both take with them many stories of my growing up that would probably make me ashamed to hear, they were both also very instrumental people in my life; Wally by giving me the oath of service on February 7, 1966 (an oath I upheld until my retirement from the Army on April 7, 2007), and to Marie who was always quick to give me a word of encouragement or one to keep me in line, which ever might be needed at the time.
I shall long remember and admire the Bacon family, and from time to time I will reflect on the many fun-filled summers spent at the lake and when our families would do what neighbors did in Newton; just share a meal together. May they both find eternal rest and peace.
May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
Rest Wallace, until you hear at dawn,
the low, clear reveille of God.
Thank you for your service to this nation.
Offering our deepest condolences during this difficult time.
