My deepest sympathy to the Hobbs family. I had the privilege of working with Andy at the US Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District office. He was a mentor and teacher with a unique style that set the bar for Coastal Engineering for the District. May his memory bring comfort to the Hobbs family.

Back in 1973, as a young engineer out of college and hired by the state, I rode over to Jacksonville from Tallahassee with Bill Carlton to meet with the Corps. Enroute, I asked Bill, "Who are we going to meet with, the Colonel?" Bill replied, "No. We're going to meet with someone really important. We're going to meet with Andy Hobbs." That meeting started a long relationship where Andy was my friend and mentor for the next couple decades. I soon learned that Andy was a true friend of Florida's beaches. I never saw him again after his retirement. I'd say Andy was one of those individuals who had a major impact on my life. I know he lived his life to the fullest and influenced me to do the same. Vaya con Dios, Andy!

Vary sad to see Andy go. He hired me to work at the Jacksonville District in 1977 and he was my supervisory until he retired. He was a very good mentor and a better friend. Rest in peace Andy, I will miss you.

I'm saddened to learn of Andy's passing. I remember Andy well...Salt-of-the-earth, respectful, supportive...frequently made use of District Library references for his work in coastal engineering.

May fond memories assist you in this final chapter, as Andy transitions to eternal life. Oriana Armstrong[West]
