I am sorry to learn of Hank's passing. He and I were study partners when we attended Polk Jr. College. Hank was a great person and a hard worker. He drove me crazy with never ending desire to have exact answers from or slide rules. He acquired that desire from his dad. Hank drove over to TECO's distribution facility in Plant City and we studied in their training room. I can not remember how many late nights we spent there, but it was a lot. We solved 100's of problems together. The last time I saw Hank was in Shands hospital at UF. He withdrew from school and went back home to recover. If my memory is close to accurate that was in the summer of 1971. I studied Engineering Science so we did not cross paths at UF. gatored73@gmail.com

This is Loretta Barkley of Columbus Ohio, my brother Larry "whitey" , was a good friends of hank and several other young guys. Larry was killed in Vietnam in Nov. 1967. Hank and his buddies camw to the funeral.

I can only assume with regret that this is our Hank. Please accept my sympathy for your loss. I remember Hank being a very good young gentleman. 6 years earlier also died on Dec. 12th. I would love to hear from you, here is my email address; skip0928@yahoo.com.

Its strange I have been thinking about Hank so much of late.

May God Bless all of you, Loretta Barkley "high pockets"

I will miss you, Uncle Hank. I know you are going to be watching us from Heaven. Thank you for teaching me how to fish. I loved it when we would ride to go get crickets.
December 19, 2012
"Uncle Hank" will be greatly missed. It has been an honor to get to know you and to be able to spend time with you and your family. There is no question about the love you had for your family. Your sincerity and patience was truly special. Blaze will always remember the times he was able to be with you as you went to get crickets so we could all fish off the dock. Without your help, I'm sure I never would've even given fishing a try. We will always think of you whenever we are out fishing. With much love and respect... Chuck Matsoff

Hank, you were one of the finest individuals I have ever had the pleasure of working with and knowing. You were a very close friend and I will miss you dearly. Many people know you for the upstanding professional engineer you were because your integrity was beyond reproach; however, I choose to remember Hank, my friend and confidante, who had a wonderful sense of humor and always teased me for being an ES. But that didn't stop you from becoming an honorary ES (Environmental Scientist) the day we jumped a fence and waded through knee deep water to look at a fill violation. Everyone who knew you is a better person for it. I just happen to be one of the luckiest people because I knew you so well and we shared so much together. Goodbye Hank, hopefully we will meet up again one day.

It was great growing up with Hank in Lakeland. We raced our home-built derby cars on the hill in front of his house on Westover St. before we were old enough to race in the Soap Box Derby. We learned to drive four-wheel-drive vehicles at an early age while working for our family's land surveying company. We went on many Boy Scout camping trips with his dad Henry, who was Scoutmaster for Troop 104. Those of us who knew him will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, daughters and immediate family.

Hank was an amazing engineer, mentor, and friend. I have never met a more competent engineer who always did the best job that could be done. We also enjoyed discussing Gator football too. My family's prayers are with the Higginbotham family during this difficult time.

I was fortunate to have met and worked with Hank over the years. He exemplified the ideals and aspirations of professionalism in engineering. In our conversations, I learned how devoted he was to his family, profession and serving others. Hank literally “walked the talk” and worked diligently to inspire young engineers beginning their careers to embrace the ideals of integrity and honesty in their own affairs. I try not to think about how he will be missed; rather, that he will be remembered and his lessons endure.

Henry H. Higginbotham, Jr., P.E, was my good and loyal friend for many years. Hank was a genuinely outstanding man; as a hard working professional civil engineer of true integrity and knowledge; as a humble, caring and generous person; and as a dedicated family man. He will be missed by many. Our sincere condolences go to his family. May God bless and comfort them in this time of loss and distress.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in your time of loss. Hank was responsible for my employment at the District. That employment has made my retirement comfortable for me. I owe what I have to Hank. He was a major influence in my work at the District. His passing is a major loss to me. I am sure he is using his Engineering knowledge with God.
