I called Jack on his cell phone and, when I realized it was disconnected, I did an internet search to learn what I had feared. I am sitting here shocked and devastated after reading his obituary. I'm sorry we never met Mrs. Carlton. My name is Kevin... his Tigers fan buddy with whom Jack watched many a Tigers and Flying Tigers game over the years. I spoke to him before he passed after he had learned of his cancer. I prayed for him often, and will now include his family in my prayers. I haven't been this sad since my Mom passed away 1/7/13. I will be thinking of you Jack every game I watch from now until I join you in the home team dugout in heaven. I will solemnly let people know when spring training comes around next year that we lost a great man, my friend, last July 18th, a date I will always remember.
We had a lot of laughs, Jack. It was an honor knowing you and calling you my friend. I will miss you!
Next March 2nd as we remember the Voice of the Turtle poem......
"For, lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of the singing of birds is come,
And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land."...
my thoughts will drift towards you, Jack, as I thank God I knew you.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I give thanks for God giving us a wonderful man named Jack who was born on June 17th, the same as my Dad.
