Dear Jonathan, You are our hero! You only longed to love and be loved in return. I would rush home from school so I wouldn't miss an episode of Dark Shadows @ 3:00 p.m. Rest in peace, Barnabas Collins.
My condolences to Mr. Frid's nephew and to all the Dark Shadows cast who knew him and worked with him. I feel the loss as one of his many fans. All my girlfriends would gather in front of my tv every week day and we would scream and holler when Barnabas would say to a lady, "Look into my eyes, you know you can't resist me." We would scream also when Quinten would come on the scene, they both were so handsome and sexy. I purchased the whole DS set in the coffin; I will never forget you, Barnabas; rest in peace, you are still loved and will live on in everyone's memory and heart.
Jonathan , you were a very good character actor playing Barnabas Collins, you had a a way of making him so real at times, and your chemistry with the other actors was so real as well. I loved the relatioship you had with the Julia Huffman character, I think the two of you would have made a great team.God bless and have a peaceful forever rest. You shall be sorely missed, good night sweet prince,

Johnathan made us wonder what being a vampire would be like he made Dark Shadows the greatest show of all time god bless him.
So very sad to hear of Jonathan Frid's passing. I would have loved to have met him in person and seen him perform in one of his one man shows at the festivals but it was not to be. I enjoyed his, and some of the original cast's cameos in Depp's movie Dark Shadows. Rest in peace, you will be loved and remembered always.

as a boy in NYC i loved to watch Dark Shadows regularly. It was a wonderfull series and very intelligent. All the actors were superb.
I grew up watching Dark Shadows and loved it, I was so sad to hear of Jonathans passing, but he will live on in my heart and memory. And as I watch the Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp, it will be bittersweet, since I love them both.
as a kid growing up, i watched dark shadows everyday. jonathan, you will be missed & remembered. barnabas will be remembered as well.

thanks for the memories
There are characters you grow up with that remain with you well into adulthood. Barnabas Collins was that character for me. I think I fell in love the moment I saw him and even after the show was cancelled and I moved on with my life, that character was always there living in the back of my brain. Jonathan Frid has died, may he rest in peace, but Barnabas Collins will live forever.
Barnabas will live forever, so will Jonathan.
I wish him peace and happiness in his next life because he brought so much happiness in his memorable and legendary portrayal of Barnabas Collins. He may have left us, but his memory and kindness will live on. Rest in Peace our dear friend.
After a lifetime of bringing so much enjoyment to so many, may he rest in peace.
I remember running home from school everyday to watch my favorite show (even though it scared me!). Thank you for the many hours of entertainment.
Memories pressed between the pages of my mind..... Memories sweetened through the ages, just like wine. Love & miss you, Jonathan. Still enjoy "Josette's Music Box" theme
I was excited to find Dark Shadows on DVD at the library. I started to watch from Jonathan's arrival, and I've been watching episode after episode for the past few months. I was saddened to hear about Jonathan's passing. He is the reason I watch the show, and why I raced home to watch it when it aired in the 60s. What a talented man. I pray that God will comfort you as only He can during this very difficult time. Many blessings.

I remember meeting you many years ago while the series "Dark Shadows" was showing on ABC. I met you with many other young people who totally adored you at Jacob's Department store in Paterson, New Jersey. You were very cordial to answer your questions about that famous 'ring' you wore on the series and you were wearing it that day. What wonderful memories. May God and his Angels make you comfortable and happy. Missing you forever. Such class and respect.
What a classy vampire you were. We met you in 1981 or 1982 when you were reciting poems in San Jose, CA
Without a doubt the most classic Vampire ever..Rest in Peace my friend..Thank you so much for the many hours of entertainment you gave me and so many others growing up in the sixties

We got the show in NC at 4 pm.I later moved to Calif.and got to meet Mr.Frid at a small hotel in Anaheim in the summer of 1980 as there was a Trekkie convention there also.He was shy and sweet.I caught up on some episodes when it ran on Sci-Fi in the 1990's.Its great to see many eps on You Tube too.I was recently visting my daughters in NYC and finally saw where they filmed the show and walked around at the manor in Tarrytown where the 2 movies were filmed in the early 1970's.RIP JF,many fans loved you and still do.
Goodbye Jonathan. My heart broke as I discovered your passing by accident. You and DS have been immortalized on YouTube ; so I can re-live some of my favorite moments from my past. I am 60! I loved watching dark shadows.
I HAD SUCH A CRUSH ON YOU:) R.I.P.
Not Buffy nor Vampire Diaries, not even GRIM hold a candle to the beloved cult like following that emerged from Dark Shadows. I too ran home from school every day to set my sights on the truly handsome fanged capeman, Barnabas Collins, and the beautiful Angelique. I remember that series like it was yesterday. They don't make em' like that anymore. God Bless Jonathan and his family as the last real vampire has been laid to eternal rest. Or has he???
I grew up watching Dark Shadows on VHS and listening to my mother talk about running home from school every afternoon to watch the first run with her siblings. We even had a mentally handicapped friend for whom Dark Shadows was one of the few things he would connect with.
Rest in Peace and I loved watching Dark Shadows
Rest in peace, as you were a great man, & a great actor-you will sorely missed, and my God send the angels to comfort your family in this time of need.

I'm so glad he was excited about the fan convention and am sorry to see that he won't be able to see the movie when it comes out in a few weeks. I'll be looking for the cameo appearance. Rest in peace, Mr. Frid, and God Speed. Thank you for some great memories and entertainment. Condolences to your family and friends.
I truly enjoyed watching him both as a child and later as an adult viewing old episodes of DS. I met him in 1982 at a DS Festival. He was very gracious and level headed. Never seemed to take himself too seriously. As an actor, Jon will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for the wonderful memories. xo

Thank you for sharing your gift with us all, Mr. Frid! I feel like I knew you since you have often been in my home, if only on the television. My mother grew up running home from school ready to be scared by her favorite character, Barnabas. I, too, loved you as a child watching you every morning at my grandparents'. Now, I've introduced you to my husband & I have no doubt that our children will love watching you, too. I'm so glad you got to be in Tim Burton's adaptation of Dark Shadows, but sorry you didn't get to see the movie's success. I wish I'd gone to Newark a few years ago and met you. Thanks for the memories!
Rest in peace Mr. Frid, your'e the reason I like vampire movies to this day but there will never be another you.
I KNEW THAT BELA LUGOSI WAS GOOD, I KNEW CHRISTOPHER LEE WAS GOOD BUT, I KNOW THAT JONATHAN PLAYED THE BEST VAMPIRE THE WORLD HAS SEEN. REST IN PEACE MR. FRID
Thank you Mr. Frid,. My girls could not wait to get home from school to watch Dark Shadows. Their will never be another Barnabas. God bless, Rest in peace.
Thank you Mr Frid, for the wonderful hours spent with my grandmother loving dark shadows cookies and tea. Rest well good Sir.
I remember back in the mid 80's I would visit my grandma and sometimes my aunts would come over with dark shadows tapes. They would watch the old episodes and always talk about how debonair Barnabas was. And that he was! Years later when I found out it was running on the sci-fi channel I would try my best to skip school and watch hoping it was a Barnabas episode. Thank you Jonathan Frid for many summer breaks filled with your wonderful theatrical performances on DS. I will never forget your handsome face.
What an amazing tribute to his skills as an actor and the enduring character he created - he was not your run of the mill vampire - with such a dynamic blend of horror and sadness - I ran home from school to watch him as a kid and by coinsidence have been watching the episodes posted on Netflix every night for the last few weeks in anticipation of the movie coming out - he passed on Friday the 13th? How very Barnabas!! -
rest in peace job well done Mr. Frid your work as barnabas collins will live for future generations to enjoy thank you

My 8 year old daughter "LOVES" Dark Shadows. We've found some of the old episodes and she says it had to be the coolest show for me to watch when I was a kid. I had a friend who was a latch-key kid and was home alone when it came on tv and he would be so freaked out watching it, that he would always call me on my phone and we would watch it together. Too bad Jonathan could't see Johnny Depp's version. I am sure that Mr. Depp will do him proud. RIP Mr. Frid.

My favorite vampire, it pains me that he didn't see the new dark shadows movie. He was imitated many times. No one got it right.
April 26,2012 Jonathan will be sadly missed.Through out these many years his one-man shows gave us great entertainment into his roles on stage and his great imagination. There will never be another Jonathan Frid, Great actor.

My absolute favorite vampire. NO ONE can compare to you "Barnabas" RIP
How sad to hear of the passing of the original Barnabas Collins. You inspired my love of all things vampire and led me to later treasures such as Buffy, Twilight, 30 Days of Night, and I Am Legend. We will all miss you and your immortal contribution to the legend of the undead.
As a small child I remember the show in B&W and then color. Collinwood was my second home and escape from reality. Jonathan Frid and of course Lara Parker! What an ensemble cast, Grayson Hall, David Selby, Kate Jackson, etc. But WITHOUT Jonathan it would not have been possible. This obituary states he died Friday the 13th and that would have been in sync with his sense of humor but everywhere else has 4/14. BTW when the show was cancelled and I was 11 years old I almost had a nervous breakdown!
Loved you in Dark Shadows never missed an episode and couldn't wait for it to come out again. You will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace now Johnathan, better known as Barnabas Collins
Rest in peace Jonathan. I loved you on Dark Shadows. Every day when I got home from school, I would run in the house to watch the show.
forever in my heart. RIP mr. frid

Jonathan,
How appropriate that The Angels came and took you Home on Friday, the 13th. You were such a Great Actor, I think God agreed with us on that and saw fit to Give you Friday the 13th, as your Coming Home Date. I remember thinking , You could have Sucked my Blood and we could have lived forever, together. Crazy thoughts of Kids who had Crushes on Barnabus. You did the Part so well , You had us all convinced that You really were a Vampire. Vampires Do Not Die, as You havent, for God Promises us Eternal Life. So, Enjoy the Grace of God ,in your new Home. You are Blessed and Eternally Loved. Never Forgotten. May your Family and Close Friends be Consoled with the thought, that You are In the Arms of the Angels.
RIP My Dear Jonathan,
Deanie
We would rush home from school to watch Dark Shadows and the next day we talked about it at school. We sat in awe watching the first vampire to mesmerize us. I still have my Barnabas ring. You were a great role model for the Gothic soap opera. The new Dark Shadows is just a spoof on the real excitement and fear you worked.

Loved watching Dark Shadowsas a kid and teen-best creepy dark soap ever-we used to hide behind the chairs when we were kids and cover out faces with pilows we were so freaked out!
Appreciated the gothic romance later as a teen, along with the hair and costumes and ourdoor home shots, one of which I was fortunate to actually visit in my later years.
Sad to see the new film's turned into a "beetlejuice" and not the gothic noir romance horror that the show was. Good to know Mr. Frid has a part in it,I'll give you props for that too Tim Burton!
Loved reading your writings online Jonathan. Our deepest sympathy to your nephew and extended family and friends. Rest In Peace Sir! You were a true gentleman.

Barnabas was my first introduction to soap operas and vampires. We would run home to watch the 330p event. He was my favorite character until Quentin came along. Once Quentin spoke in his shrilly tone, Barnabas moved into first place again.
Like many others, play would stop and we would rush home to watch Dark Shadows. RIP Jonathan. Thanks for a great Barnabas. I really hope the new movie does justice but somehow I don't think so.
As a fan and former Augusta Youth Player, playing "death." May Yahweh keep his family. A FAMU Rattler.

It was one of my favorite shows and my 28 year old daughter has been watching the series again! I'm anxious to see the new movie; however, I'm not sure Johnny Depp (or anyone) can bring Barnabas to life like Jonathan Frid.

I STILL have "THE" ring I got from my mother as a present, back in 1967, and went to the 30th anniversary convention. I watch the series everytime it comes back on SciFi. There are shows I missed between school and work and I see something new or I have forgotten every time I watch them. "Barnabas" will be missed. Thanks for the memories!

Ran home from school everyday to watch. R.I.P. Mr. Frid. You are a star.
Thank you for my childhood memories. May you rest in peace. Condolences to family and friends.
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Jonathan Frid. Dark Shadows was/is a big part of my life. As a kid, I ran home from school to watch it on ABC at 4:00 everyday. We then began putting on plays in our garage, and I played "Barnabas", Mr. Frid's role in D/S. The show went off the air on my 14th Birthday, and I was devastated. Years later (1992) they began showing it on the Sci-Fi Channel, and I got re-acquainted with the show. Today I am 55 and have attended almost 20 Dark Shadows festivals. We were looking forward to seeing you again this summer, in Tarrytown, but it was not to be. R.I.P. Jonathan, there will never be another one like you. Thank God we will always have you with us in that wonderful, magical series we so loved, & we loved it mostly because of you!
My favorite after school show. RIP Barnabas Collins.
I never missed a show that was a wonderful soap opera.
R.I.P. Mr Collins

I wore a ring with a black stone in it , just like Barnabas. Jonathan, you were a gifted actor!! Thank you for being part of my teenage years!! You will be missed.
Dark Shadows was a very bright spot during my teenage years and I have so many happy memories of watching it with my brother.... and yes, we DID run home the moment the bus dropped us off from school, as so many others did. The show still brings me joy whenever I watch it.
Thank you, Jonathan, for being such a big part of that and for your generosity to the fans. Rest in peace.

Everyday growing up,we always watch Dark Shadows..We were all in love with you..RIP
As a child, I always stopped at my Grandmother's house on the way home from the school bus. We watched Dark Shadows together each day! Not your average Grandma/Granddaughter ritual, but it was ours. She did a pretty good Barnabas imitation too! Rest in peace, Jonathan! Thanks for the memories.
God Bless You! Dark Shadows was my favorite soap, growing up in the sixties. I still catch old episodes now. Barnabas you were the best.
OMGoodness! For years as a child I was petrified of Barnabus. My cousins used to scare me with photos of him. He did his job so well, that well, his character scares me even today. Now that I am an adult, I realize there was much more to than man than what was behind the "teeth."
We LOVED Barnabus Collins, R I P
RIP, I would run home to see Dark Shadows! Ohhhhh! so much fun scaring each other. A wonderful show.
I loved "Dark Shadows" and Jonathan Frid as Barnabus Collins. God bless his soul. My sympathy to his famiy.
I loved Dark Shadows! I'm so sorry to hear about Jonathan's passing. I'm excited that there is going to be a movie to carry on the character that Jonathan played so well!
Sad to see him go, but hope he is finally getting a much-deserved rest. From what I've heard, when he was healthy he was a regular dynamo. Rest in Peace, dear Jonathan Frid. We Dark Shadows fans and many others that lives you have touched miss you.
Dark Shadows was one of my favorite shows. Thank you Jonathan for the many years of playing a vampire. This started me in the vampire movies. God Bless to you and the family
Dear Family,
I, like so many others, were in front of the TV when Dark Shadows was on, prepared to be scared. I am sure that to you Mr. Frid meant much more than afternoon entertainment. But, for me, I will remember him as one of my favorite childhood memories. I am sorry for your loss.
Long live Barnabus Collins in the hearts of all baby boomers who rushed home from school to be scared and we couldn't take our eyes off the show.
I've got plans to see the movie with Johnnie Depp with bestie from childhood. We too are among the legion who dropped everything to watch each episode. I certainly didn't expect anything like that in the movie except a small chance to reminisce, and now with 'barnabas' gone I can only hope for a marathon showing of the real deal...loved Angelique and the song from Josette's music box...RIP.
My sincerest condolences to Mr. Frid's friends and family. Dark Shadows was so unique and he did a great job of bringing class and emotion to the vampire character. Incomprable...rest in peace dear man.
Oh, my condolences to the nephew! My sister and I used to watch Dark Shadows faithfully when we were just little girls! News woman, Dorothy Fultime was on right before it, and we used to put our stocking feet on her face on the TV screen because we couldn't wait to watch spooky Dark Shadows! Good memories......Looking foward to seeing Mr. Frid in his cameo on the Tim Burton version of Dark Shadows!
I was a big fan of Jonathan and his character, Barnabus and the Dark Shadows show. I too would rush home from school and jump up in my dad's lap and we would watch together. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Dark Shadows starring Jonathan Frid will forvever be a fond memory of my childhood. We couldn't wait to see Barnabas Collins everyday. He will surely be missed. God Bless....

I am a Fan of Dark Shadows. I use to run home from school everyday, as a kid, just to watch this show that I was so fascinated by. I couldn't wait to hear the theme song come on..It was so thrilling and eerie. I am so glad to be part of this era and the great mini series that aired in the late 60's and early 70's. It was sad to see this show end. I hope we get to enjoy more of the reruns and memorys. R.I.P. Jonathan Frid. Thanks for being part of our History. God Bless your family !
To the family of Mr. Frid, may God's word give you strength and comfort to cope during this difficult time.(isaiah 12:2) My deepest condolences.
Like so many of the guest book entries by fans, we too rushed home to see Dark Shadows after school. Practically everyone watched it. It was unique, interesting, scary, you name it. And Barnabas of course was the favorite. My sincerely condolences to Jonathan's family; he did leave a lasting legacy however. He will be forever remembered.

God bless you on your new journey!!!

We had two cats at the time and named the male Barnabas and the female Angelique (the lead female character). My condolences to his family.
I loved to watch Dark Shadows when I was younger...what a well done soap opera with a twist, I never missed it! Condolences to Mr. Frid's family, he was truly the heart of the show!
I lived close to school. So everyday we would run to my house to watch Dark Shadows. He was a vampire with a heart. When you think vampire...you think of Jonahan Frid as Barnabas Collins. Rest in peace and know you were always the best. My sincere sympathy to his family.
Jonathan (Barnabas),
You were a great inspiration to me in my formative adolescent years. I loved Dark Shadows and ran home every day after school to see it. May you have eternal peace in heaven with others from the show who have predeceased you. Looking forward to your cameo in the new movie. Johnny Depp can never be as good as you were in the role.
Love,

Dark Shadows and Jonathon Frid was a very big part of my growing up years. I was very disappointed when the show was cancelled and have thought of it many times over the years. Rest in Peace Mr. Frid you will be missed but always remembered.

I loved Dark Shadows when it was on originally and then when the SyFy channel had it on in later years. He was the show to me. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fans.
I can remember running home from school to watch this show. I love Vampires and this show was the greatest. Jonathan will be greatly missed. But the memories will live forever. May Peace Be With You and Your Family.
Many generations after Dark Shadows will not be able to relate that you had to "run home after school" to catch the airing of this unique and supernatural soap opera. If you missed an episode your friends were your DVR or computer to catch you up. Barnabas Collins was the first Vampire with a tormented side wanting to become human again yet clinging to his dark side. Jonathan did it with class!
Heartfelt condolence to you Donald.Your uncle was a class act and a pioneer Vampire to todays generation of Vampire followers,he will be a hard act to follow .R.I.P. God Bless.Looking forward in seeing him on the screen again in the upcoming "DARK SHADOWS".

I remember wishing the school bus would go faster so I'd be home in time to watch every minute of Dark Shadows. Mr. Frid was so convincing as a vampire, I was afraid to go to sleep! When I went to bed I wore my Cross necklace and tacked up a Cross in my window. I'd also pull the covers up around my neck and tuck them in, even in the summer, but I continued watching every day! How appropriate that you died on Friday the 13th. May you rest in peace and thank you for the memories!
I loved Dark Shadows growing up. It was the best show. Barnabus was my favorite on the show. Rest in Peace Mr. Frid.
Mr. Frid did an excellent job as "Barnabas Collins". What a great actor. Thanks for the wonderful Dark Shadows memories which enriched my childhood. Maybe Angelique will let you rest in peace now.

I met Jonathan Frid at a Dark Shadows convention in Tarrytown,New York back in August of 2007. He was very nice to everyone. He signed an autograph for me then. I wish I could have gone to the Dark Shadows convention in 2011 that he attended in the New York/New Jersey area. In 2007 he spent time to talk to the crowd, replay scenes from Dark Shadows, have a dinner with the fans of the show etc. His co-stars Kathy Leigh Scott, and Lara Parker were there with a few other minor characters of the show. I video taped a lot of this convention. Watching that tape now will be a little more sad knowing that Jonathan will not be able to come back from the dead like he did so many times. Maybe in a seance I can talk to you again Jonathan.
I was tweenager when Dark Shadow's was on & that was scary stuff for a soap, & now the movie Johnny Depp, is going 2 let D.S, live on....R.I.P. Mr.FRID.
Jonathan Frid was a one of a kind, a part of soap opera history that ushered in a unique new found Gothic story line, will miss you Jonathan Frid, hope Johnny Depp does you well with the new movie!
To the the family of Jonathan Frid - May God give you peace and comfort through his word and the Lord Jesus Christ during this time of sorrow, I know that he will be missed by many.

WELL, SIR.
The resurrection of Barnabas was one of the best storylines of Dark Shadows. Like every other kid in the 60s, my sisters and I rushed to the tv at 4 p.m. to see what would happen next with Barnabas. While frightening, it was also entertaining and left us wanting more. Rest in peace, Jonathan. Prayers to his family.
I had the good fortune of meeting Mr. Frid backstage after one of his performances in Arsenic & Old Lace in Beverly Hills back in 1987. He was very generous with his time, signed my copy of "Dark Shadows Scrapbook Memories" and walked back with us afterwards to the parking garage. He invited my friend and me to his one man show, Jonathan Frid's Fools & Fiends, at the Fairfax Library in Los Angeles. He'd had a certain spark that kept my mother, grandmother and me glued to our TV set when we'd watch him as Barnabas Collins, and I was pleased to see it was still there in abundance at his staged reading. Years later, in the summer of 2010, I would see him leave his hand prints in cement outside the Vista Theater in Hollywood. That spark by then was nearly gone, and I knew his time here was almost done. Fortunately, it will live on for years to come in the eyes of his legions of loyal fans!
Thanks Jon... You played the part well and to it's fullest...You made DARK SHADOWS a great success. God rest your soul. RIP
We would not miss Barnabas. My husband and I watched it every day. Our kids were young, and one of them told me the other day that it scared him to death. It scared us, too and we were grown.
You know Mr Frid as a person and not as Barnabas. I am sorry for the loss of your uncle.
So very sad to hear of Mr. Frid's passing. Loved Dark Shadows as a child. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. R.I.P.
I would race home from school to watch Dark Shadows. Jonathan Frid stood out of the cast of characters and did it with style and grace. RIP

I am saddened by the death of Jonathan Frid. He was a favorite of mine in Dark Shadows. Mr. Frid gave us a different kind of vampire and made it believable and at that time not a bit campy.
I send my heart felt condolences to his family, friends and many fans.

Mr. Frid, thank you for all those special moments. Can't wait until the movie comes out so I can see you one more time. God bless you!
He was great as Barnabas Collins. An after school ritual in high school. Gracious response to nerdy fan letter. His role was played with wit and grace.

He can't be dead. He's immortal. The original "sexy" vampire. He scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, but I never missed an episode. I couldn't wait for school to let out every day. Thanks for the memories, Mr. Frid.

As a great fan of Dark Shadows i was sadden to hear of the passing of jonathan
Frid. He will be so missed. RIP my Friend
I will always remember Barnabus I watched the show with my 2 year old and she didn't like Barnabas she would cry when she saw him.I would give her cany and cookie to make her quiet.Later she confessed to me she liked him and only cried so she could get treats and to this day she cries when she can't get her way.Dark Shadows shaped her life.
Dark Shadows was a favorite show of mine and Barnabas was who made the show what it was.He was a great vampire and I am sure he will be missed.Iremember watching the show everyday I was really addicted like so many others.I am hoping Dark Shadows will come back to tv as I would love to watch it all over again.

Dan Curtis once said, "Dark Shadows will live forever." So will you. Rest in peace, Barnabas.
OH My Goodness I adored Dark Shadows
and Jonathan Frid. I was a loyal fan
till the day the show ended. I was a
mere teenager. God rest his soul. He
brought great excitment and fun into
my life!
A great entertainer. I missed watching Dark Shadows when it went off the air; it took a long time to get over. I never understood as a child why it didn't come back. I enjoyed watching it with my sister and Aunt Violet. Rest in peace, Jonathan. I am sorry he did not get to see himself in the latest film, but I don't think it will do him justice. May his nephew be proud of his accomplishments.
A fantastic actor in every sense of the word! Thank you deeply for bringing life to Barnabas Collins. R.I.P.
When I first heard the news Jonathan had been called to his home in Heaven, my thoughts were, he can't die, he's a vampire. Every day I faithfully watched the soap and wanted it to stay on longer because of having to wait until the next day to see what happens next. It was the very best soap ever there was on television and i was so disappointed when it went off the air. Our oldest son Todd was 4 when he learnt "London Bridges Falling Down, from watching Dark Shadows with me. So many of us absolutely loved Barnabas and our hearts were sad for him he had that curse from an evil gal over jealousy Barnabas loved Josette. Thanx Jonathan for the wonderful story and memories we will cherish forever. You were the BEST. I still watch my videos.
Dear Barnabas,
I wish all of your family and all who love you comfort and peace.
I never received an autograph of you, but your name is written on my heart.
Love and Blessings,
See you on The Other Side
Forever Yours,
Mary

To the Frid family, I too would rush home from school and couldn't wait for 4pm to come to see Dark Shadows. My little sister, who was 5, hid behind the recliner once she heard Quentin's theme song and knew Barnabas wasn't far behind. Dark Shadows was the best. Thanks for the memories, Jonathan Frid. RIP.
Judy Small, Bergenfield, NJ
Growing up I would have dinner, and watch Dark Shadows. I loved Jonathan
Frid.
I had such a crush on Barnabas. I would hurry home from school so I could see the show--like so many other teenagers in the 60s. My sympathies to his family--I hope you find comfort in knowing the joy Mr Frid gave to his television audience.
I shall never forget the day "Barnabas Collins came back to life". It was April 1967. Our daughter had been born April 9 so my husband had taken off work for several days to be with me and the baby as we returned from the hospital and settled in at home. We were casually watching Dark Shadows the day "Barnabas Collins" arose as the vampire. I must admit: we did NOT see that coming! My husband and I were hooked! I became a daily viewer and, once my husband returned to work, he requested I give him the play-by-play of each episode for quite some time thereafter.
I was impressed by the sophistication of the Barnabas Collins character which Jonathan Frid played so well.
Everyday after school at 4:00 you could find me glued to the TV watching Dark Shadows. I loved that show.I loved Barnabus Collins and thought he was great. He will be missed.
I was so sad to hear of Mr. Frid's passing. I too was one of the kids who ran home from school in the 60's to watch Dark Shadows and especially Mr. Frid as Barnabas Collins. He was definitely my childhood hero. He will always be remembered forever and always as Barnabas Collins. Mr. Frid thanks for the wonderful memories. Rest in Peace kind Sir.
Mr .Frid .was a very good actor and will be mourned by many fans. William Hildreth
Sympathy to Donald Frid, Jonathan's nephew, all of his friends and family, and fans. Barnabas will live on forever, I loved you 4o years ago and will love you forever. I am so glad that I got to see you in person once, not as Barnabas but as a great reader of poetry at the Mercer County Community College in New Jersey. Jane in Hamilton, New Jersey R.I.P.
you are missed already, and many are grieving for you. It will be difficult to watch the new Dark Shadows movie and not compare the new to the old, just know I prefer the old Dark Shadows to any! RIP
Jonathan , Watched Dark Shadows as a young girl . Loved your character, Would rush home do chores and then Dark Shadows , and now thanks to netflix I watch them again, brings back very good memories . Thank you! Rest In Peace
All of my girlfriends had huge crushes on Mr. Frid "back in the day". In addition to "Dark Shadows", he guest-starred in an episode of one of my favorite series of all time, "Night Gallery." His performance in "Certain Shadows on the Wall" still haunts me to this day. A great actor. Yet another piece of
my childhood was lost this week. Mr. Frid & Dick Clark--may your "stars" shine forever.
I'm so sad, I thought he would be here foever, always at the DS Festivals, always writing his blogs. It has been tough to wrap my head around this, even though it is a part of nature. I hope his family understands how many people Jonathan Frid touched, reached and inspired. A true gentleman, whom exhibited grace and style. He will be missed!
I can still remember my sister
watching Dark Shadows after
school-she LOVED the show..
You could not disturb her when the show was on. My, sister MARY does not text so I thought I would say this for her

M. Froncek (Chicago Heights, IL)
We shared a love of Shakespeare as well as fascination with the Spanish language. His brillance and depth of understanding of language was awesome. What a terrible loss to the world that he is no longer with us.
I was so addicted to watching Dark Shawdows..Thank you Jonathan. God Bless you and your nephew..
RIP Mr. Frid and my condolences to your family. I enjoyed your show, I used to run home from school so I wouldn't miss a second.
He made everyday exciting after we came home from school as we waited to see what Barnabas was up to on Dark Shadows. With the Johnny Depp rendition of Dark Shadows coming out, I'm sure he passed away, pleased, knowing he had successfully created the character of Barnabas in a way that made legions of fans, 40+ years later, still want to emulate the character. Goodbye Jonathan...and Thank you.
I was a big fan of Darkshadows growing up...My sympathy to the family.
My deepest sympathies....Dark Shadows was one of my favorite shows. I still watch the videos today. May you rest in peace Mr. Frid.

I sorry for your passing
you were great actor I read that
you were in the royal navy so
this be fiing for you
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
My condolences to the Frid family. May God give you comfort during this time of sorrow.

Just like so many others I would rush home from school to watch Dark Shadows. It's ironic that my girlfriend and I were just talking yesterday about going to see the DS movie when it comes out. RIP Mr. Frid. You were a GREAT actor.
I watched DARK SHADOWS every day not missing an episode from 1967-1973 to watch my crush "BARNABAS COLLINS who was my teenage "imaginary friend". I almost got a chance to meet him in person back in 1969 when he came to my home town, Wayne, New Jersey for an afternoon. I didn't have a ride to get there and my parents wouldn't let me ride my bike on that stretch of roadway.
I am sad that he has passed away, but happy he lived a long life of 87 years. I was hoping he was going to be as old as BARNABAS when he finally did pass away.
I am so sad to hear of Mr. Frid's passing. He brought me many hours of joy watching his show "Dark Shadows" as I was growing up. Rest in Peace my friend!.

Like so many others, my sister & I would rush home after school to catch Barnabas & the gang on Dark Shadows. Our mom still teases us for chewing the corners off the couch pillows while watching. We loved it & can't wait to see the remake movie next month. God Bless you. Thanks for the memories.
There are some roles where and actor or actress can write a check and no other actor can cash that check but them the signature is final. Jonathan Frid's Barnabus Collins was such a role. The role is often imitated but never duplicated! What a testimony to his work. My condolences to his family and friends. God bless you in your time of sorrow.
I will always love you. You were absolutely fantastic !! RIP.
I, too, would rush home to watch Dark Shadows. It was wonderful fun. Sooo scary to see something like that show on television. Condolences to Mr. Frid's family and friends.

Dark Shadows was my religion when I was a child. Barnabas Collins creeped me out but he was such a noble gentleman with a conflicted soul. I remember when he tried to turn Maggie Evans into his beloved Josette. I can still hear the waves crashing on Widow's Hill. Thank you Mr. Frid for your remarkable talents. You will always have appreciative, adoring fans. RIP
I remember the afternoon I discovered this on tv - loved to look forward to seeing it daily and Johathan was the heart and soul of it - may he rest in peace<3

I never missed this show; such great memories. Mr. Frid made Barnabus Collins seem so real! Yet, he always appeared to be a kind man. He will be missed. There is only one Barnabus Collins, and he can only be played by Jonathan Frid!
And now Barnabas (Johanthan), "You are but of what dreams are made of. And your life is rounded by a sleep". May you rest in peace and know how much we treasured each episode of Dark Shadows you apeared in. Thank you!
Like so many others adding their thoughts, I used to rush home after school to watch Dark Shadows. There was nothing else like it on TV. A vampire/love story/soap opera. How perfect is that to keep you watching?? RIP, Mr. Collins. But, how can our favorite undead person die? :(
Thanks John.....We will always remember.
My condolences to the family.

I too ran home every day after school to watch. Loved Barnabas.... and Quentin of course....... I did not know he had a cameo, can't wait to see him.
My condolences to the Family. Early in life my mother watched the show daily and I have to admit, I was scared of the show. That shows how much of a remarkable actor Mr. Frid was, to have that effect on myself. It is indeed an honor now to bestow my condolences to your Family at this time. I lost my mother in 1996 and now we are extending to you all comfort that this may be hard now, but, God has stated repeatedly in His word that He will help us all endure. Trust that and rely on Him.

I was addicted to Dark Shadows as a college student and never got over it. I think Jonathan was such a great actor and was such a gift to his fans and the other actors on the show over the years. He was accessible and didn't mind the jokes about the campiness of his show. He lived a long life and seemed to really enjoy it. I only wish he'd lived to see the Dark Shadows movie that is about to be released. Rest in peace, Barnabus.

I was so drawn in by the story that when watching it was like being in a hypnotic trance. I loved Jonathan Frid in the role of Barnabas Collins. He was a scary vampire but at the same time you had sympathy for him because he was tortured by his very own existence. I have the complete DVD set of the entire series. My husband and I are watching the series our second time around now and just love it. When watching Dark Shadows it blocks out everything else around you. The story really pulls you in. I am so glad that I had the opportunity of meeting Jonathan Frid at the Dark Shadows Festival in Brooklyn, NY in 2011. What an honor it was to meet him. In loving memory of a very unique and talented man. You will be missed. RIP Barnabas

Jonathan Frid was our favorite character in Dark Shadows. My sister & I would run home from school to watch. Never missed an episode. He will be greatly missed. God bless you John. Love you & rest in peace.
To Donald Frid, and to all his family and friends! With sympathy. Jonathan may never have understood why he was loved so much, but it was a complex mixture of the man himself (quite elegant an individual), as well as the depth of his acting. Mostly, he immortalized an era in television, and those of us Boomers who will have a chance to relive it in dark shadows!
So happy to hear he left us so gently! He earned it.

I am so saddened seeing this. I remember watching him (he was the only reason I watched and if he wasn't on, I didnt watch!) and falling madly in love, as much as a 12 year old could. I am so sorry for your loss.
I too rushed home from school to watch Dark Shadows. I just loved that show. Barnabas was my favorite. Thank you Mr. Frid for the wonderful childhood memories I will always have.
God be with your family. We will meet in Heaven.
I look forward to seeing the New Dark Shadows movie. I will be sure and look for you Mr. Frid. God Bless you!

I remember running home from school so I could watch "The Barnabas Show"!! I ADORED Barnabas AND Jonathan! A sad, sad loss to those of us who grew up with "Dark Shadows" and the "TRUE BARNABAS COLLINS"!!!!! Go with GOD, "Barnabas".
I am saddened to hear that we lost another icon of our generation. There will never be another "Barnabas Collins" like the one that Jonathan Frid put his mark on. I loved his tragic, lovelorn vampire character. He played Barnabas with heart and we all felt his pain when he could not reunite with his Josette. What a great actor! Condolences to his family and all his fans.
Oh, wow, the ORIGINAL Goth vampire. All the "vamps" today could learn a thing or two from him! Couldn't WAIT for the show to come on after school each day. Aferwards, rushed to the phone to discuss the episode with my best friend. God bless you, Jonathan, and thanks for the great work. You made us believe! Denise Webster
Jonathan Frid will be missed. But always remember that he was the greatest Vampire ever and vampires Live Forever.
I loved this actor when I was a kid...I had a crush on him and never missed a Dark Shadows episode. I still watch it on my dvds! I wish he did more acting! His legacy will live forever...I named my Pug after him! RIP Barnabas Collins I love you and hope you find eternal peace! God bless you for all the years of enjoyment you have given me! XOX
RIP, Mr. Frid. Thank you for all the wonderful memories.
My girlfriends and I ran home every school day from Junior High, to get home in time to watch "Dark Shadows," featuring Barnabas Collins and Angelique. It was such a joy for us teens to be entertained by Barnabas and the other characters of that show, it made for good conversation in the cafeteria the next day at school. Thank you, Mr. Jonathan Frid. Ruth,(Camden,NJ)
I never missed an episode of "Dark Shadows" - mainly because of Barnabas Collins. Mr. Frid's portrayal of evil was frightening, yet fun, to experience. I'll never forget him.
Loved the show. Glad he got to do the cameo!
I can remember coming home from school and watching Barnabus everyday. My future husband scarred me silly one day while watching this, I was really into it and he grabbed me around the neck and I almost ran. He still laughs about it 40 years later. May he rest in peace.
Dear Mr. Donald Frid,
I am so sorry to hear about your Uncle's passing. As you can see, Jonathan was truly loved and respected by so many. I too rushed home after school to watch Dark Shadows. Jonathan Frid has been and always will be my favorite actor.
May God comfort you with His Peace and Love.
God Bless!

Like so many other kids of that generation I too would rush home from school, do my chores and homework so I could glue myself to the television at 4:00 pm sharp. It was great television in a time when a little suggestion and your own imagination could scare the daylights out of you without todays slash and gore. Mr. Frid was a talented and gifted actor. He created the character of Barnabas Colllins and made us love a vampire. He was and always will be Barnabas Collins. How fitting that his last role would be in Johnny Depps new Dark Shadows movie. Rest in peace Mr. Frid and thank you for scaring a whole generation of kids to death. My condolences to his family.
I'm another baby boomer who was a huge Frid fan (had a mad crush on him) & rushed home after school everyday to see D.S. Was lucky to see him in person around 1968/1969 at Marine World/Africa USA in Redwood City, CA. Still have his autograph in my scrapbook, along with photos of him & also still have the D.S. record album. RIP, Jonathan. You were a part of TV history and my own teen years.
My wife, Sheila, and I met Jonathan Frid on an NCL cruise in 1988. I remember finding Jonathan on the beach one afternoon ...sunbathing. I told him this was the first time I'd ever seen a vampire working on a tan. He laughed, winked and said "Don't ever tell anyone what you've witnessed." RIP, Barnabus

I want to also share that I was a very young child who came home from school each day looking forward to watching the drama filled program. For many years, I assumed I was quite odd caring for vampires & time travelers. turns out, many of us were out there watching. He was great actor & I would have to attribute Dark Shadows as one of my very favorite shows of all time right up there with my favorite martian.
I REMEMBER GROWING UP WATCHING DARK SHADOWS THAT WAS THE BEST SHOW. MR. FRID DID A GOOD JOB PLAYING BARNABAS COLLINS WITH ANGELEC AND QUINTON. THE MUSIC TO DARK SHAWOWS IS ERIE. I'M SORRY TO HEAR OF HIS PASSING.GREAT ACTOR. HE WILL BE MISSED. I WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH THE OLD TV SERIES AND NEVER WILL FORGET HIM.
I had no idea that he was 87..I thought he would be in his middle 70's. I have the Dark Shadows books that I bought when the show came out and still reread them. I could hardly wait to get home to watch it and it was the only time that my little sister was quiet, because she was scared of the show..I had the biggest crush on him and David Selby
Jonathan fanged his way into our hearts and made TV history.
Rest In Peace Barnabas
Sorry for your loss prayers to the family.
In loving memory of a wonderful Actor. We will miss you always. Condolences to family & friends .
Jon Frid was an exceptional actor. He brought me so many hours of happiness and joy, and he will be sadly missed in my household.
R.I.P Barnabas,my condolences to your family. spent many afternoons after school watching dark shawdows.Iwill never forget that program or you.
I was one of the many who rushed home after school to watch Dark Shadows!!! i was devastated when it went off the air. I have all 5 years of Dark Shadows on DVD. Jonathan, you will be missed big time. Rest in Peace old friend.
I used to rush home from school everyday to watch Dark Shadows. Really enjoyed the show. RIP
There will never be another "Barnabas Collins" like the one portrayed by Jonathan Frid. I just got my hair cut like the infamous actor/character.
I grew up watching the show afterschool. A masterpiece! Would be nice if a network would run old episodes as a tribute. SharonSpencer (Lorain, Ohio)
Dearest Jonathan,
Yes, I was one of many who grew up watching Dark Shadows and running home from school to watch it. We had about 6 kids come over and as we watched it in the den, we would scream as we knew Barnabas's fangs would start to come out. My mother would get so scared at listening to us scream, she would never watch the show. I collected some of the VHS tapes of the show. I never got to see you in person and will regret it. I also loved the chemistry with your character and Angelique (I named my dog after her)I had a crush on you and I hope you rest in peace as I knew your were ill. I love you Jonathan. PS, go say hello to my mother :)
In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it's the memories of you that are the most precious.

I absolutely loved Dark Shadows and Barnabas Collins was the reason. He was so much fun to watch!! Vivian (Kansas City, MO)
My wife, Dianne, and I were two of those kids who ran home from school every day to catch the latest episode of Dark Shadows at 4 pm. We recently started watching Dark Shadows again from the beginning on DVD with as much fascination and excitement as the first time we saw it back in the 60's...especially the episodes that feature Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins. He was an actor of the highest caliber and will truly be missed by all those who were his fans while growing up, and still are after all these years. Jonathan brought such a rich quallity and deep dimension to the character of Barnabas Collins, which has been duplicated in recent films and television series, but never with the intensity and soulfulness that Jonathan did. We extend our condolences to his nephew Donald, and all those fans of Jonathan Frid who are feeling the same sense of loss as us. Rest in peace Jonathan...
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed Dark Shadows. I was born in 1967 and my mother told me the only time I was quiet in the womb or out of it was during the show. I was lucky enough to watch it as I grewup in re-runs. My deepest sympathies to his nephew and other loved ones.
I am so very glad he was in the new movie. He was so talented!
The Movie we're awaiting would not even be a consideration if the original cast wasn't so exceptional, especially the brilliant Jonathan Frid...RIP Barnabus we'll miss you! and fitting that he transitioned on Friday the 13th!
What memories of my childhood..rushing home from school to watch DARK SHADOWS!!! We had the board game, wish I kept it...REST IN PEACE..MR.FRID...YOU WILL ALWAYS BE BARNABAS COLLINS...I CAN HEAR THE THEME SONG!!!
A wonderful actor and a great show growing up in the 70's holds great times like this show.PL Tn
I just loved him. He was such a part of my youth with Dark Shadows. Of all who try to play Barnabas Collins, they will never measure up to his character on and off screen. My prayers are with his family on their time of grief.
I enjoyed watching Dark Shadows. Johnathan Frid was great in his role of Barnabas Collins. No one can take his place in the role of Barnabas Collins. My condolences to his family may memories bring you comfort.
RIP Jonathan Frid. I enjoyed your portrayal of Barnabas Collins and will always remember the memories of that soap opera series. You will never be forgotten. RIP Jonathan Frid!!!
I would rush home everyday from school to watch Dark Shadows. Barnabus was such an iconic character on the program and I even would comb my hair like his when no one was around. I would tape the show on my tape recorder and listen to it over again. Thanks Mr. Frid for one of the great memories of my childhood! Rest in The Lord's arms
My sister and I would rush home from school to see Dark Shadows; we really enjoyed the show. All the little kids we baby sat for knew who Barnabas was. The program was a legend in its own time. Thanks for the thrills and chills.
Dark Shadows and Mr. Jonathan Frid was my childhood in a nut shell. I couldn't wait to get home from school, had 1 hour to do my chores, and to see 4:00 on the clock for Dark Shadows to come on. Mr. Jonathan Frid always had a commanding presence on screen. One of the few actors I respected. I will miss him dearly. My condolences to his nephew and to all that loved him.
Mr. Frid's Family
We used watch Dark Shadows after school

I remember rushing home from school to watch the original Dark Shadows, it was a great introduction to vampires, & one of the earliest "soap operas", also the storylines were excellent. There will never be another one like it.

Rest In Peace Barnabas(Jonathan) .
I loved watching Dark Shadows,it was my favorite show. thank you, Jonathan and may you R.I.P,
He was the epitome of the tortured soul in vampire form. His portrayal of Barnabas Collins made us accept a mortally flawed hero, but, accept him we did. We salute you. Rest in peace.
Every day I couldn't wait to get home from school to see Barnabas and all on Dark Shadows. A time of my childhood I particularly enjoyed! Rest in Pease, Mr. Frid.

I was a great fan of the vampire soap opera, I and my classmates remember rushing home to look at Dark Shadows. Then the next day we would discuss the episode and figure out what was going to happen the next day or days to come.
It would be our highlight of the day and something to look forward to that day. I will truly miss "Barnabus" and he will forever live on in our memories. May GOD give "U rest" in his arms.
I GOT TO KNOW JONATHAN ON A PERSONAL LEVEL 20 YEARS AGO WHEN HE VISITED, ON MY INVITATION, THE VICTORIAN TOURIST TOWN OF JIM THORPE, PA.
I OWNED A SMALL THEATRE THERE AND AT THAT TIME WAS A PROFESSIONAL MAGICIAN. TURNED OUT WE KNEW A LOT OF THE SAME PEOPLE PROFESSIONALLY AND STRUCK UP A FRIENDSHIP.
HE LOVED THE TOWN WHICH BECAME FAMOUS IN THE 1960'S WHEN THE MGM BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE, "THE MOLLY MCGUIRES" WAS FILMED THERE. HE CALLED IT, HIS BRIGADOON!
WE SPENT TIME TOGETHER AND I FOUND HIM TO BE A RESERVED AND INTERESTING MAN. ONE TIME HE EVEN WENT SO FAR AS TO INTRODUCE ME TO AN AUDIENCE WHILE HE WAS ON STAGE DOING ONE OF HIS ONE MAN SHOWS, CALLING FROM THE STAGE AS I SAT IN THE AUDIENCE, "WHERE ARE YOU?" HE WAS FULL OF UNEXPECTED SURPRISES!
HE WILL BE MISSED.
That was a show that my sister and i use rush home from school to see.We was afraid but we couldn't stop looking.
My friend & I watched you on "Dark Shadows." Loved the show and your compelling, textured Barnabas! My friend even wore a black ring on her index finger just like you did! Farewell, dear Jonathan. RIP.

War Eagle from Auburn University
Most kids had the Lone Ranger or Batman but I was in awe of Barnabas and the whole Dark Shadows phenomenon. I am saddened by his passing, but he seemed to have a full life and happy with his choices.
I LOVE YOU TOO, BARNABAS! I WILL MISS YOU! GOOD SOAP OPERA!
he would have been a great father, i think.
i thought he was so cool that when i got my class ring in high school in 1973, i wanted to wear it on the same finger he wore his ring on,. and Johnny Depp CAN NEVER BE THE REAL ONE. sorry.......
You changed the stereotypical "Vampire" from a blood ingesting ghoul into a vampire with feelings. You gave millions of people an opportunity to escape city riots, Vietnam, assasinations for 30 minutes every day.
Thank You Mr. Frid.
I raced home from school to watch Dark Shadows, it was great. God Bless.
I would also run home from school to watch Dark Shadows I love the show you were the best vampire ever thank you so much for the memories Rest In Peace

you were a great actor it was a shock to
find that you have died
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
It's own appointed limits keep
Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.
Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
Through the great spaces of the sky.
Be with them always in the air,
In darkening storms or sunlight fair
Oh hear us when we lift our prayer
For those in peril in the air.
my sister and i use to rush home also. she would set near the door waiting to run out.

Adieu to my favorite reluctant vampire. I can't count the hours of entertainment I enjoyed watching that show as a kid.
My mom would hold the front door for me as I ran into the house from the school bus. I never missed an episode of Dark Shadows. Mr. Frid played the role of Barnabas so well. Sincere sympathy to his nephew.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
I was never a follower of soaps, still not. But when I was in Jr. High School, my best friend and her sister would race home from school just to watch Dark Shadows. When it ended I was always hoping to see Mr Frid in other movies. 47 years later I had to call my friend and tell him of his passing. My friend was a huge Dark Shadows fan. He has all the memorabelia that ever existed on Mr. Frid. Johnny Depp is a great actor but I don't believe he will be able to match Frids personna. Rest in peace Mr. Frid, there will never be anyone like you.
Kay McLennan-Martin

Loved watching Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins. He had such class to his character and made all women want to be bitten. Loved the show and him. Condolences to his family and may you rest in peace. We will miss you.
I watched Dark Shadows religiously. I saw it from the first to the last episode. It was the greatest "soap opera". I will never forget it.
Mr. Frid I can't begin to tell you just how much you have shaped my childhood. Dark Shadows was a HUGE part of my life. I was a very shy little girl, but when I watched you in the show, I knew I could be a cool someone too! You were my first "crush", and with Barnabas by my side, I could conquer the world. I know you will rest in peace dear Jonathan, but you will be missed greatly.
I am so sorry for your lost. May you and your family rely on God in this time if grief.
I loved watching Dark Shadows. It was my favorite show back then. As many others I would race home after school to watch. I was captivated. It was a great show. Rest in Peace Mr. Frid, you brought hours of entertainment to many of us and you did it so well. Prayers to your family and friends.
Though I was young...I loved the show and whenever I heard the name Barnabas I would immediately say COLLINS! Rest in peace oh potrayer of vampire!
We loved you in Dark Shadows you will be missed by everyone who loved it.
Thank you for scaring us. I know we all rushed home after school to watch. Just to see what you would do next.

Dark Shadows was my first Soap Opera and I loved it. R.I.P. Mr. Frid.
What a great loss - even though Dark Shadows has been off the air for years, it is one of my favorite memories of my growing up years. Thank you for adding to my memories!
I was always afraid to watch Dark Shadows, but I would do it...EVERY day!
Rest in Peace Jonathan. You were a true gentelman and a great actor. You will be missed greatly by all of us that still cherish your perfect performance as Barnabas Collins.
My sincere sympathy to the "Frid" family. Jonathan Frid..aka Barnabas Collins was welcomed in my home as a child every afternoon. My first Vampire crush..Thank You Jonathan for the memories and entertainment. You will be missed..RIP

When I was young I would race home from school to watch Dark Shadows. He is the first bad boy I fell in love with.
Barnabas scared the "bjeezers" out of me in the 60"s there was just something about the show "Dark Shadows" - even though it scared you you just couldn't miss it! the world has lost a brilliant campy actor! RIP - Johnathan!
Dark Shadows was one of my favorite shows and you definitly did justice to it. Rest in Peace Jonathan Frid and may God keep you in his care!

that program was great. I loved it when I was younger. THANK YOU
RIP Mr. Frid. You are the one and only Barnabas Collins. I used to rush home from school to watch Dark Shadows. You will be truly missed.
Respectfully,
always loved you in dark shawdosrip
The only soap I ever watched and Jonathan was the reason.
Ypou will sadly be missed! I have photos of you in my home..Huge dark shadows fan!I own all the eps. books and comicbooks...RIP!!
I loved watching Jonathan in the show he was the reason I named my first child Jonathan. May he rest in peace and forever be remembered as on of the best actors of his time.
Yes, I have to agree, thought Barnabas Collins was charming...never scared me one bit. Can't say that for all the other scary creatures. RIP Jonathan Frid. Thanks for keeping me company everyday after school when no one else was there.
I too ran from the school bus to turn on the tv. 'Dark Shadows' was ahead of it's time and Jonathan Frid played a wonderfully entertaining vampire. I've often thought about the show and Barnabus. Thank you, Jonathan, for those memories. Your work is appreciated. Peace to you.
Favorite show from my childhood ....off the bus over the bushes busting through the front door sliding across the floor to the old black and white TV .... My condolences to the Frid family and all the fans!!
I watched this show and couldn't wait for the days to pass so I could get back to it. Loved the show especially Frid!!
I just watched the whole series from beginning to end. Loved it. And a special thank you to Dan Ross for writing the story and making a great place for Jonathan Frid. Rest in peace.
The passing of Jonathan Frid, who gave us the indomitable Barnabas Collins, leaves a little hole in our world that no one else will ever fill. I met Mr. Frid in 1988 when he sailed on the SS Norway. His poignant Readers' Theater presentation of Irwin Shaw's, "The Girls in Their Summer Dresses," is a memory I still cherish. Great voice, great presence, great man. May he rest in peace after a life weill-lived.
During the height of its popularity, I was in cub scouts and was not about to miss a single episode just because of our weekly "den" meetings. I have no idea how I managed it, but somehow I got all of us down to our den mother's basement rumpus room to watch "Dark Shadows" each week. Poor Mrs. Lisk!
RIP Jonathan.... I loved watching Dark Shadows. I would get off the bus and run like the wind to watch that show. It was a favorite.
Donald my condolences with the passing of your Uncle.
Peace & Blessings.
I would run home after school to watch this show, and fell in love with Mr. Frid. I even watched the remake a few years ago, but no one could take on the role of Barnabas like Mr. Frid. Peace be with you and your family.
E. Hines (Gary, In.)
I remember Dark Shadows when I was in grade school. Barnabas Collins was the best vampire there was! RIP Jonathan Frid!
Rest in Peace. You will always be remembered as the original/best Vampire.
My condolences to the family.
RIP Jonathan. You will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Thanks for all the sweet memories we will always enjoy revisiting.
I went to a catholic school. I would go home everyday, watch Dark Shadows and give Sister Mary Genevieve a play by play of the days previous episode. Run home in time to catch the next. Jonathan Frid was awesome and so likable. I wish TV Land would run the series. It was so much fun. He will be missed. I look forward to seeing him new movie.
I was such a huge fan of his when Dark Shadows was on the air. I would fain illness so I could stay home and watch the show. Mr.Frid was a class act. My thoughts are with his friends and family.
He has always been the Vampire all others aspire to be. What a campy yet classy portrayal Mr. Frid gave us in Barnabas. This was one of my favorite childhood shows and I still watch it on DVD. May you RIP Mr. Frid. Looking forward to seeing the cameo in the Tim Burton version.
My favorite show. My family and i watched it every day after school. My mom was a big fan. She will be upset to hear Jonathan has passed. All thoug Qutin was my favorite. But i think he was everyones favorite because he was so darn handsome. RIP Mr. Frid!
"My thoughts and prayers are with the Frid Family in their time of grief. At tmes like these,
drawing close to 'God' in prayer is what will
"sustain you." [Psalm 55:22]
If anyone could love a vampire, Barnabas was the one. Dark Shadows tok the dull repetitiveness out of soaps. Thanks Jonathan Frid
This was my favorite show back in the day. I always rushed home from school to watch it. I loved all the people in it and never missed a day watching it. I even bought the VHS tapes of the entire seires. Dark
Shadows will live 4 ever.
I remember watching this show faithfully everyday.....may our favorite vampire rest in peace.
Rest in Peace Jonathan and thank you.
It was a great experience for me thru my years of grade school to rush home from school and watch Dark Shadows. I was intense of watching Barnabas and his great acting skills. Back then there was no retake. It was do or die, but it was awsome to watch the cast in perfect and imperfect acting skills. I wish they would do a re-run of the shows popularity. Rest in peace Jonathan Frid.
Andre' Paquet Jr.
he will be greatly missed. he was an icon. i could not wait to get home from school each day to see dark shadows. one of my best childhood memories.
I used to watch Dark Shadows and Jonathan Frid brought an air of sophistication and class to his character. It's a sad day for those of us who remember that show. Unlike his character, Mr Frid has found eternal rest.
I though i was the only one runing home from school. it was the best. I always dint want to miss a show cause there was no reruns.I always wanted a ring just like him and had a crush on Victoria Winters
I never was much on soaps, but would rush home from school everyday, just to watch Barnabas, the coolest vampire ever.....R.I.P. Barnabas
The original vampire heart throb! Jonathan Frid helped people see that vampires had humanity, quite a challenging idea at the time. His family is in my thoughts as they deal with his loss.
The original vampire that everyone loved. I grew up watching Dark Shadows not realizing what a wonderful actor Jonathan Frid was outside of that role. Hopefully he will be remembered for much more than his role as Barnabas Collins.
I am one of the kids that would run home to watch Dark Shadows. He played a vampire "Perfect". Will be missed but has a great legacy. I watched him everyday.
One of my happiest memories from childhood is rushing home to watch you on Dark Shadows. You also came to town one Halloween and did horror readings at our local library. It was wonderful. Rest in peace. Thanks for the memories
Rest in peace Barnabas Collins! You will not be forgotten.

I loved this show as a child. Used to watch every evening along with my mother and was terrified afterwards. Great actor.
Linda Rogers (Sylacauga, Al)
I rushed home from school and could not wait for dark shadows to be on I loved it .So sorry the loss of jonathan frid, thanks for the memories.
My condolences to your family. Mr. Frid really made Dark Shadows. My mother and I spent many hours watching the show. He will be missed.
Linda Swan ( Delta, PA)
Jonthan Frid was the best. Dark Shadows was the greatest show ever. I can remember being sick with the measles, Hong Kong flu and Mono, back in 1968. I had to get up from my sick bed and to the living room to watch the show and go back to bed. Thank you Jonathan for making our afternoons with you the best we ever had. You were a gentleman. Rest in Peace..
When asked if he received any remuneration for the televised airing of "The Wizard of Oz, " Ray Bolger replied, "No, just immortality, I'll settle for that." And now certainly Jonathan Frid shares that same compensation. What more could an actor ask for. RIP
I was a big fan, never missed Dark Shadows.
To the Frid family,
may God bless you with peace and healing that only he can give. Jonathan, you were the reason for my interest in Horror films today. I would skip the school bus so I could get home faster so I wouldn't miss Dark Shadows. You were the perfect fit for this role , so talented and such a gentleman. It saddens me and I have a heavy heart since learning of Jonathans passing, it's like family and a part of my life is gone. Jonathan, you meant so much to so many and you touched millions. No one can ever in my eyes be Barnabas Collins, not even the talented Mr. Depp can hold a candle to you.
Until we meet again friend,
Rest in Peace.
IWhen dark shadows first came on i was not well. The character he played kept me going thru long afternoons i will always be grateful. Rest in peace jonathon and thank you
I remember in high school every afternoon having to rush home to Watch Dark Shadows. He will be missed.
so sorry to hear of his passing - dark shadows was my favorite soap opera & he was extraordinary in that show
I was a fan over the years .You were the first since Bela Lugosi to play the role with class. You won my heart as I hoped for a cure for Barnabas. I will miss your website and the wonderful content I will miss your readings as well.. I pray you eternal light, happiness, and peace in Heaven. Love, Mary Morris (Somerset, Ohio)
he was a wonderful actor - my favorite on dark shadows . He will be missed. :(
My favorite vampire. Thanks. RIP.
I loved watching Dark Shadows!! How ironic that Jonathan Frid passed away on "Friday the 13th"!! R.I.P. Jonathan Frid!!
I rember when I was a kid how much I loved Dark Shadows. I would skip dance class if something good was going to happen that day. I cant wait to see the new Dark Shadows movie. Rest in Peace Barnabas Collins. I'm sure this is not the end of you.
J. Frid played the best vampire thus far, that I have seen. May God be with you. RIP +
Mr. Frid was a hugh part of my life as a young teen. Dark Shadows paved the way for all of the vampire shows today. RIP Mr. Frid.
Dark Shadows was an institution in our household. I even dressed as a vampire for Halloween while the series was showing on TV. My mom and I N-E-V-E-R missed an episode and this was way before the days of the VCR and DVR so, you either saw it "live" or you never saw it again. The arrival of Barnabas Collins changed daytime TV forever and that was because of the incomparable Jonathan Frid. He MADE Dark Shadows what it became. We all have our special memories but when I think of Dark Shadows the name Barnabas is first and foremost. I recently purchased the entire Dark Shadows TV series on DVD and my children are now enjoying it as much as I did back then. The man will NEVER be forgotten in my household. Jonathan Frid will live throughout eternity just like his namesake. RIP sweet man.
My condolences to the family.
I was so hooked on Dark Shadows and Barnabus. I collect the board game and all the memorabilla as a child. So, Johnny Depp, you cannot replace him! Love the original. The new movie appears to make fun of the original - Stop it!
It was my first year of college. There was one television on each floor of our dorm. We all gathered there each afternoon to watch Dark Shadows. If need be, someone skipped class to watch and let everyone else know what happened. We loved it. Nice memories of a less stressful and gentler time when television was more family friendly.
When I was little I couldn't wait for Dark Shadows to come on even if I spent some of the time hiding behind a chair.I still watch the reruns,
James Legler(LaGrange,TX.)
My Deepest Sympathy to Jonathan's family & friends. I remember being in high school when Dark Shadows was on TV. For some reason I never really
cared for the show. But years later, maybe in the 70's/80's they started showing it on our PBS station and I got hooked on it then. Actually after I graduated they made a Dark Shadows movie and my girlfriend took me to it and I really liked it. Later I was even buying all the Dark Shadows paperbacks that came out. Still have them.
My girlfriends brother lived next door to where the TV show was filmed.
Jonathan played Barnabas perfectly. It was his part. No one else will ever be able to play the part like he did.
Its something that he died right before the new Dark Shadows movie comes out and he died on Friday the 13th!
RIP Jonathan.
SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOST.LIKE SO MANY
OTHERS ALL THE KIDS IN MY NEIGHBOR-
HOOD WOULD RUN TO THE NEAREST HOUSE TO WATCH DARK SHADOWS. WE LOVED HIM AND HATED WHEN THEY CANCELED THE SHOW.RIP BARNIBUS.
Ihave great memories of watching Dark Shadows. Mr. Frid was my favorite character. I rushed home from school in order to watch. Rest in Peace knowing how much pleasure you gave to so many.
Jonathan Frid was very much the reason that Dark Shadows was so popular. I had a newsprint-sized picture on my bedroom door when I was younger. :-) Fond, fond memories and happy that this legacy is continuing. RIP, kind sir. You brought joy to many by helping us suspend our belief for a little while.
He will forever be known as the kind hearted vampire and a wonderful actor. No one else could have brought this character to life the way he did.
Rest in peace. He brought many happy moments with my grandad when I watched the show with him.
This really is the end of an era, Mr. Frid. You're one of the few surviving stalwarts of my childhood. What you brought to my formative years is inestimable and the world is suddenly a sadder place.
So sorry to hear of Jonathan's passing. He was an icon that so many of us rushed home to see on TV. He entertained so many people over his career, he will be sorely missed!
Gail from MA
You will be sorely missed. You were just so scary. Scarier yet he is the same age as my father-in-law. I hope he is not a vampire as well.
I was a little kid when Dark Shadows was on TV. He used to scare the snot out of me. When he was about to bit someone, I would hid under the blanket. My cousin Heather was also a huge fan. It was the only soap opera that actually made sense (no confusion). Thanks for the scary memories.
Sincere sympathy to the family . I never missed watching Dark Shadows . Hope your memories are filled with love.
RIP JONATHAN FRID. GOD BLESS
I had the priveledge to meet Jonathan Frid when he traveled to the Altoona Campus of Penn State University. I waited in a long line to have him sign my scrapbook I'd kept of him. He looked at every page while the rest of the people waited. He was a special man and will be missed.
An important part of my teen years. Thank You and Godspeed, Jonathan Frid.
Like many, rushed home from school to watch the show, which would have gone nowhere without you. The DS reruns in the 80s were the reason I purchased my first VCR. Sorry I could not meet you in person at the DS reunions (almost went last year) but I have a great photo of you. You were a Class Act!
I will miss you. You were the best!
Time waits for no one'
How can we not forget
this After School

Dark Shadows was our favorite show in our college years; Jonathan Frid was always a joy to watch. RIP to an actor who gave many wonderful hours of entertainment to so many.
My Dad watched this show growing up...he bought the set & told me to check it out. I fell IN LOVE w the show!! R.I.P. Jonathan Frid...you mayb gone BUT will NEVR b 4gotten!!
So many days of hurrying home from school to see Dark Shadows. It was an all time favorite. Barnabas was scary and sexy.....what a great actor. He probably pick Friday the 13th as a great exit date. Sincere sympathy to the Frid family.
I like many others am a big fan! From the time I was in grade school to junior high. I bought the Dark Shadows music album (which also featured recitations by Jonathan and David Selby) produced by Dan Curtis, ~also now gone. The Dark Shadows board game had a pair of soft plastic fangs and were fun to have for slumber parties and halloween! And my room was decorated with magazine pin-ups of the cast. My mom watched one episode with me once and she was surprised to see Joan Bennett on a soap opera. That episode was very classy~ so mom then liked Barnabas and Elizabeth and accepted why I loved the show so much. I hurried home to keep up with the story lines and also collected the paperback novels (which were so mesmerizing). I am sure the Depp movie version will be a farce but the cameos by Jonathan and Kathryn Scott will be what I look forward to when Burton's Dark Shadows is released soon.
My condolences to Jonathan's family, friends (and fans like me, who truly admired his talent)for he has been a beloved actor whose portrayal of Barnabas will be as immortal as Jonathan himself has become~
"I'll Be With You Always" rings true even now~ Thank you for being a part of my childhood and such a great interpreter of all of the characters you played. Your passing is a tremendously sad and huge loss to many.
I loved Jonatthan Frid, he was Barnabas. Never missed an episode of Dark Shadows. Thanks for the many years you were on the show, rest in peace........
My girls got home from school in time to watch "Dark Shadows" every day. It was a fun part of the day for the three of us. Mr. Frid was an excellent actor and a perfect vampire, scary but with ultimate class. God Bless
I loved Jonatthan Frid, he was Barnabas. Never missed an episode of Dark Shadows. Thanks for the many years you were on the show, rest in peace........Roz Nelson ( Stayton, Or)
Oh dear ... I'm simply heartbroken. I was so in love with him in 1968 and never missed Dark Shadows. It was conveniently scheduled everyday at 330 or 400, right after school. That mad dash home after school was full of anticipation ... I will never forget. :'-(
Back in 1967 I was a young Air Force wife and spent my afternoons watching Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and of course, Dark Shadows! Jonathan's Shakespearean training was responsible for his Barnabas personna, IMO. Somewhere I have an interview saved in which he related his amazement at the show's popularity. "Last week I didn't have time to do laundry," he told the interviewer. "So I had to wear swim trunks as underwear!" Too bad he never married, he truly deserved his own Angelique!
Barnabas will always be the original vampire for me, I will miss you. Lorri Johnson (Hurricane, WV)
I watched every episode from start to finish and loved Barnabas Collins. I hope he knew the enjoyment that so very many fans got from watching his character on Dark Shadows.I wish I could have told you this in person Mr. Jonathan Frid.
Dark Shadows was a show way ahead it's time. I was 10 - 12 yrs. old at the time and I could tell you many stories from that series. Jonathon was one great actor!!! I hope Johnny Depp scores a hit with DS movie.
L.A. Goodman (Oakland, KY.)
The only vampire character that never scared me and that is saying alot. God Speed, you will be remembered.
How sad that he died before the movie came out. I was quite young when Dark Shadows was on, and didn't understand a lot of it, but couldn't wait for him to appear on screen. I remember my sister yelling to me from the other room, "he's on!", and I'd come rushing in to see him.
I attended his poetry readings in Columbia, SC, in the late 1980's. I am glad to have met him. He seemed to be such a true gentleman. Eerie that his passing was on a Friday 13th. How gothic....
I remember just waiting as a young child to watch Dark Shadows (Barnabas Collins--Jonathan Frid) When it was time to go to bed, I would go into my room scared to death to even turn the light on in my bedroom. I just waited for the next day to watch the show. You never knew what would happen, with all the suspense, Barnabas always kept me on the edge of my seat.
I'll never forget coming home from school and Mom insisted we watch Dark Shadows. It wasen't long before I got hooked on it, so, I made sure I was home by the time the show came on. Rest in peace, Jonathan. You were a great actor, and I'm glad I was around at the time your show was aired. Really enjoyed it. God bless your soul.
MY FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME. I WAS IN GRADE SCHOOL AT THE TIME DARK SHADOWS WAS ON AND NEVER MISSED AN EPISODE. AS I WATCH THE TAPES IT TAKES ME BACK IN TIME WHEN LIFE SEEMED SO MUCH BETTER. BARNABAS HAD A SENSE OF STYLE THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN SINCE ON TV OR MOVIES. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND, AND THANK YOU
So sorry to hear of his passing! :'( !!! Was a Dark Shadows fan & watched it every day when I got home from school. He will be sorely missed! God bless & kepp him! ???
Mr. Frid originated my passion for the lovable vampire when I was just a child. He will always be Barnabas to me. May God welcome him into Heaven.
Rest now, Barnabas. You will live forever on the internet. I loved this show as a kid & recently started watching from episode 1 all over again. How fabulous jonathan made this character! I'm living it all over at 50 & still can't wait for the next episode! Just finished #670 before bed. You played your part well, how could we not love you! My sympathy to his loved ones & friends. I look forward to his cameo in the remake.
To the Frid, sorry for your loss. I remember running home from scool everyday to watch Dark Shadows, if Mother was home I could not watch it, but I loved that show. May his SOUL have a safe journey home. Peace be with the family.
What a great man and terrific actor. Like so many others, I became a fan of Dark Shadows in my early teens. I truly admired his work. Later, I saw him on stage in Arsenic and Old Lace and in many of his Readers' Theater productions. I could sit and listen to him for hours. I remember seeing him in Chicago with my young nephews and they were transfixed! A unique talent and a gracious man. I am so glad to have met him a number of times. A gracious man, truly. Thank you so much,Jonathan. You are much loved and will always be remembered.
I met Jonathan at one of his dramatic reading performances - What a gentleman! So talented and such a professional. Rest in peace, Good sir, may the angels welcome you to Heaven.
May the grace of God comfort the family and friends and fans of the late Mr.Jonathan Frid.I grew up watching Dark Shadows with my aunt Macey she is also resting in the arms of the almighty God.Jonathan Frid you will live on through your movies .Sleep ,in heavenly peace.
