DR. JOSE R. HINOJOSA EDINBURG - Dr. Jose R. Hinojosa, Emeritus Professor, passed away on Tuesday, December 03, 2013 at his residence in Edinburg. He was born on August 7, 1937 in Palito Blanco, Texas to Teodulo and Josefina Hinojosa. Dr. Jose R. Hinojosa had extensive teaching experience at various Universities. He taught at the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg for 37 years, he was a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin, at Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, St. Mary's University at Notre Dame, and at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Dr. Jose R. Hinojosa received his M.A. Degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, and a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Dr. Jose R. Hinojosa was actively involved in many community organizations throughout his career. He served as a consultant and campaign advisor for several local, area, and state candidates seeking political office. Dr. Jose R. Hinojosa is survived by his caring and devoted wife of 46 years, Irene V. Hinojosa, his sons; Jose R. Hinojosa, II, M.D.,(Yvonne H. Hinojosa, M.D.), and Javier R. Hinojosa; a sister, Blanca Aurora Salazar and six granddaughters; Gabriella, Olivia, Karina, Cristina, Victoria and Mia Hinojosa. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family between the hours of five and nine o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, December 4th 2013 at Legacy Chapels, 4610 S. Jackson Rd. in Edinburg. A rosary will take place at seven o'clock and will be webcast online at www.legacychapelsrgv.com. Funeral Mass will commence at ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at St. Joseph Mission- Palito Blanco Church in Palito Blanco, Texas. Interment will follow at Hinojosa Cemetery in Palito Blanco, Texas. Our thanks and gratitude to Dr. Socrates Garrigos, Dr. Maharaj Razdan, Dr. Hector Urrutia, Dr. Hillary Almeida, Dr. Angelito De Dios, Dr. Billy Marek, Arbor View, Home Health Care, and Dr. Julian Gomez as well as Oscar and Gilbert Dougherty. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Dr. Jose R. Hinojosa Public Administration Endowed Scholarship at the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas.
