Deloris H. Pence, 70, of Big Clifty, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Norton Pavillion in Louisville.
She was born Feb. 28, 1943, and was a member of White Mills Christian Church and a Kentucky Colonel. She was a retired teacher who earned a master's degree in English, taught for 18 years at Grayson County High School and served two years as a social worker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude L. and Lena Virginia Pence Hart; an infant sister, Martha Ann Hart; and two nephews, Stephen Harrell and Phillip Burkehead. Survivors include her husband, Robert Pence of Big Clifty; a son, James R. (Jean) Pence of Virginia; a granddaughter, Kimberly Noel Pence; four brothers, John (Dixie) Hart of Big Clifty, William "Billy" (Wanda) Hart of Cecilia, Randall (Lola) Hart of Clarkson, and Mike (Roberta) Hart of Big Clifty; and a sister, Judith Pawley of Eastview.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. CST Wednesday at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home in Clarkson with Brother Tim Dennis officiating. Burial follows in New Hope Cemetery in Big Clifty.
Visitation for friends is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association in memory of Deloris Pence.

Deloris, my lifelong friend - I'm sure going to miss seeing you occasionally at Walmart. I have wonderful memories of our younger years when we use to go to the movies and our "away" ballgames. What a funny, delightful person you were and your loss is sure going to leave a void in this world. I know that Reba is having a hard time dealing with your loss and she loved you so much.
