I am grateful to Mr. Sanders. In July of 1967 he employed me to teach at LaRue County High School. Gene Hoggard was the principal and Jean Hatcher, who treated me as a son, was the media specialist. They are all special to me and started me on a long teaching career. Among other new teachers that year were John Morgan Markham and Mark Brady. I worked at LaRue County High School two years, married and moved to St. Louis, Missouri where I worked as a teacher, junior high assistant principal, high school assistant principal, and high school principal.

After thirty years in education in Missouri, I retired and began a career (currently eighteen years as Professor of Education) at Missouri Baptist University.
In October of 2016 during a visit to Hodgenville, I had the opportunity to visit with John Markham and with Sam Sanders.

The opportunity presented by Mr. Sanders started me on a long career and I am very appreciative. Thanks to Mr. Sanders and blessings to the Sanders family.

To The Family of Mr Sanders , Sam, Dee Ann, Samual and Trever. Ronnie, Nathaniel and Family, I am so sorry for you alls Loss . Mr Sanders was a Good Man I know how much he Loved Larue County and the People and School System that he helped Build up to the System that it remains today . He was always nice to me and would joke with me about Suiting up for the Football game when we came across each other at the games . I would just say I wasn't that good when I played but it made me feel good that he remembered me trying to play anyway . It was always a pleasure to see him and talk with him when he was out and about, he always road through to check things out . He Truly cared about the people and the System itself, he helped a lot of people out when they needed it when they was in School and long after they was out of School . He will Truly be missed , may God Bless the Family.

I was saddened to hear the loss of Mr. Sanders. As an employee at Larue Co for six years, he always seemed to be supportive of the school and athletic program and he always had good things to say about the kids. He was a true "Hawk" and will be missed. When I left there, he always kept up with me and was supportive of my career and coaching. I always loved seeing him at basketball games and football games. He also had a memory unlike any person I ever met. Mr. Sanders lived a full life and changed many other lives for the better. I just feel blessed to have known him. Prayers for the family in the days ahead.
