Mr. Z. was influential. Forced us to challenge ourselves while he taught us both English writing and literature. He expected and demanded a lot from us and probably got more out of his students than any teacher.

Never forget his habit of forcing you to pay better attention by squeezing your shoulders with those big hands. (Probably could not do that now. ) But it was effective back then.

I fondly remember Mr. Zielinski as the organist and choir director at Our Lady of Sorrows. As a child I was enthralled with his supurb organ playing and choir direction. I remember wearing out the record album that Mr. Zielinski produced with the OLS choir at the time.Because of his early influence in my life, I decided to pursue a degree in church music and continue to serve the Archdiocese of Detroit as a full-time musician for over 25 years. Thank you, Mr. Zielinski, for your inspirational music, and may you rest in peace.

Don Zielinski was an English teacher at OLS in Farmington where I was a student (class of '67). My sister, Joanne, and I both remember him to be a teacher who inspired us to write well (weekly) and encouraged us to think! He was also the organist and choir director. I was in 10th grade when the church was in need of an assistant to play the organ for very early masses on Sundays. Under the guidance and instruction of "Mr. Zielinski" and the faith and belief in me of Monsignor Thomas Beahan, I became an assistant organist there and spent more than 50 years as a "substitute" organist at many churches in the Detroit and Lansing dioceses. I am grateful for Don's instructions, tutoring, guidance, and patience. I've enjoyed my avocation that might not have evolved without these two men. God bless you, Don and your family, and may He hold you gently in the palm of His hands!
