I'll never forget Miss Layman, she was my first piano teacher in l955. I was six years old and she gave me a great musical foundation, in fact I still have recital programs I was in. Rest in Peace Miss Layman.

Dorothy Layman was a piano teacher for my 4 siblings and me during 1950-57 (I was aged 7-14). Her piano studio was on Whittier Avenue, East Detroit MI. She was the best music teacher a child could ever dream of. She took my twin brother and me to see Paul Paray conduct the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. She taught music theory and piano technique so well that our recitals included works usually assigned to much older students. Now at age 71, I still use her lessons on my weekly classical music radio program on WLUR 91.5 FM. How I wish she had remained our piano teacher forever. Craig McCaughrin, Professor, Washington & Lee University, Lexington VA.
