We love you Grandpa. You will forever remain in our hearts and souls. We will always remember all of the good times that we shared and enjoy every last one of those memories. I can honestly say that I wouldn't be anywhere in life without the guidance, morals, and values that you have instilled in all of your Grandchildren. You were a kind, loving, generous man with many words that were never spoken, but with a look that said it all. We all appreciate everything that you have given us over the course of your life. The smiles, the laughter, the good times, we could always count on you. When I was younger, you would always attend my sporting events, cheering me on, more so providing me encouragement to be the best that I could be. You would also provide sound guidance on what I should've done and how to do it better. I will miss those times. You were everyone's hero, although you were just being you and had no true intention of being everyone's hero. You were a war hero, a member of the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific, which many people think is heroic just watching it on TV, and you were there. You were a survivor, a stern man, a tough man, with an extremely soft heart. You made an impact on everyone you met – although you may not have known it, you did. You brought entertainment to us grandkids, to your own kids, to everyone that met you. You were a goofy guy, which in turn made us all goofy, and, I would like to thank you for that. Without that, we wouldn't be who we are today. Sometimes it helps us to make it through the difficult times and you understood that very well. You loved us with the passion and the devotion that encompassed your life. You taught us to believe in ourselves, to stand up for ourselves, to know ourselves and to accept responsibility for ourselves. We knew we were the luckiest grandkids in the world and we had done nothing to actually deserve it. It is something that we will have to spend the rest of our lives to work very hard to live up to.
We are all very proud to call you our Great-Grandfather, Grandfather, Father, and Husband, and more proud of the fact that we had a chance to share all of the wonderful memories that we had together. There isn't a whole lot that I could say that you didn't do in life, you conquered it. You had the world in the palm of your hand and you held on tight. You accomplished so much and with odds against you, you prevailed. I am so proud to call you my Grandpa.
We will deeply miss you Grandpa, and I want to thank you for being there for all of us when we needed you, because without you, we wouldn't be here. You had something about you that showed that you had the courage to take on everything that life had to offer, I think you've passed that down to all of us.
Elwood Waldemore Johnson, you were my hero – and always will be, I will miss you every day. I will never forget the times we shared, I will never forget you. I will always remember and will always have you on my mind and in my heart.
