Don was a wonderful friend and co-worker. He was Superintendent of the Village of Lake Orion Department of Public Works throughout my entire tenure as Clerk of the Village. If something was broken, Don could be relied upon to repair it. A couple of his repairs brought smiles to the faces of his co-workers. For example, when the string on the weed-whacker broke too often to suit Don, he replaced the string with a bicycle chain. When the stop sign at the curve on East Flint Street was run down by a car just one too many times, Don abandoned the metal stop sign post in favor of a concrete post.
He wrote out instructions for me telling me how to jump start the battery on my automobile. I still carry those instructions in my car at all times.
Don was pleasant, smiling and a gentleman always. He was a treasured friend.
I am terribly sad that he is no longer here with us on earth, but I know he is at peace in heaven.
I send my deepest condolences to Charlotte and all of children and their families.
