Dear Susan and Family,
It is with deep sadness that Patricia and I send our sincerest sympathies to you and your family on Jim's passing. Receiving the call last Tuesday evening was unquestionably a shock and heartbreaking news for us and can not even comprehend how it was for all of you at home. I hope you can find some comfort knowing what a fine quality man Jim was, as was beautifully detailed in his obituary. I've spent the days since reflecting on the Jim I had the pleasure of knowing and serving with for four continuous years at Army duty stations at Ft. Sill and in Schweinfurt, Germany in the mid-1970s to the beginning of the 1980s. He was a dedicated officer, battery commander, fellow comrade and to me as a younger captain at the time, a superb role model. We had many conversations where his wise counsel and advice were offered and valued. Please pass these thoughts on to all the family and especially to Kristin and Eric whom I knew as young children and may remember me as a frequent visitor to their home while in Germany.
Again, know you and your family are very much in our thoughts during this time of loss and have our heartfelt condolences.
