Margaret Kryszak Obituary

NEW BRITAIN - Margaret (Peggy) Elizabeth (Street) Kryszak, 90, of New Britain, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 12, 2014. She was the loving and caring wife of the late Joseph R. Kryszak for over 50 years.

Margaret was a life-long resident of New Britain and was born there on Sept. 15, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Street (Luby), attended local schools in New Britain and was a member of the National Honor Society. Margaret began her working career as the office manager at the Firestone Tire Company in New Britain where she met her life-long friend, Martha Worobel. The two became inseparable. Margaret left her position at Firestone to raise her two sons, Robert and James; returning later to begin a new career as office manager at New England Aircraft Products Company in Farmington for over 25 years where she was not only a manager, but a mentor and "mother" for all who she interacted with. "Peggy" as she was known, provided unending support, both professionally and personally to all of the employees. Margaret was loved by all who came to know her and possessed a wonderful sense of humor, which she graciously passed on to her two sons. She had a great love for animals and would often act as "referee" when either son (usually Bob) would bring home a random stray dog or cat and yes, even a rabbit or two. She would frequently speak of her home life as a child, describing it as "a lovely home life where there was always laughter". She learned to play poker at the age of nine. As a young child, Margaret's love of adventure seemed unending. Even at the age of 10, she thought nothing of, as she would say; "packing my little suitcase and take the Greyhound bus by myself to West Springfield to visit my aunt and uncle." Margaret was a charter member of St. Maurice Church in New Britain, and in addition to serving in various capacities for the AARP Chapter 4146 and a member of the Plainville Senior Center, Margaret regularly donated her time to the American Red Cross along with many social and charitable functions in New Britain and Plainville. Margaret was also an avid fan of the UCONN women and men's basketball teams, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants.

Margaret is survived by her son, Robert and his companion, Kathleen Kilduff, of New Britain, who cared for our mom as she would her own; son, James, of Southington; her dear sister, Dorothy Field, of New Britain; he "daughter she never had", Diane Scibek and her husband, Bill; her sister's in law, Freda Kryszak, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Helen Wiernasz ,of Southington; four grandchildren, Kate, Kimberly, Kelly and Michael; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 15, from Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Maurice Church in New Britain. Burial was followed in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Plainville. For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.Bailey-FuneralHome.com.

Margaret's sons wish to extend their sincere appreciation and ask that memorial donations be made to the amazing caregivers at VITAS Innovative Hospice Care who cared for our mom and allowed her to remain in her home with dignity and grace; the same home that she and our dad built in 1960.

Dear Jim & Bob,
I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. Your Mom was a great friend to me and I have great memories of "our Sunday dinner", watching my Dad's golf & then switching to her Boston Red Sox. She loved her pasta and my Dad's crab dish.
Margaret, Rest in Peace. I'll miss you dearly.
Love,
Leslie(Dodez)Nichols

Our very deepest sympathy to you and your family. Margaret was so important to my Dad and shared many special moments with our family. Will remember her cheering for the Red Sox and UConn basketball and the special cake she always brought for dessert
