My grand parents lived next store to Spagnols in Queensborough. My sister and I would walk over and buy candy. I can still see it so clear. So sad.

Dear Rita and Family,

I am only just getting this information now but wanted pay my respects to one of the greatest human beings I have ever met, and the best boss I have ever had. He always treated me with the utmost respect and compassion, he opened his heart to a y
oung energetic kid and in return there were many a day and late night that I left my heart and soul on Derwent Way!

I remember amazing Christmas parties at the community centre, grape season dinners, wine and pasta days in the cafeteria and all the wonderful caring relationships I developed with each and everyone. My days at Spagnol´s remain wth me like a magical memory hard to equal. For more than 5 years it truly felt like a family to me. For this I have a great and undying respect for you.

Lyle, your memory will always live on with me and I really hope to share a glass of wine and some pasta with you one day on the other side. I send my deepest sympathy to all your wonderful family especially Rita, Don, Brian and Julie. I owe everything I have today to Spagnol´s Beer and Wine and the Sproule family.

Thank you Lyle from the bottom of my heart for working so hard in your lifetime and accomplishing so much for your family and community.

Sincerely,

Martin

When Lyle came to the community of Queensborough, he was basically an outsider. I think, even now, if you are a New Westminsterite, you are either from Queensborough or an "uptowner". He had some strikes against him.... he didn't speak Italian, Punjabi or any other of the many languages spoken by the ethnics. But it wasn't long before he connected with everyone because he spoke "people". He actually became on icon in the community.
I studied management styles in school, but as a one time employee of his, I learned management by example... treat people with respect and never ask anything of anyone that you are not prepared to do yourself.. He always got the best out of everyone by always showing his best.
He's a man that I looked up to and respected. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to know him.

My condolences to his family.

Rita and extended family. A wonderful service today to celebrate Lyle. So many memories. The number of people in attendance from family to friends to business friends is only a small indication of what a great man he is. Brian, my first recollection of Lyle is as "Constable Lyle" that you would call upon for store security. Great to see all of you again.
