Alice Mae (Kretzer) Mellott, 93, a resident of Ravenwood Assisted Living Center, Hagerstown, Maryland, and formerly of 610 Spring Hill Drive, Waynesboro, died Sunday evening, June 1, 2014, in Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born March 19, 1921, in Clear Spring, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Paul D. and Lovesse (Wishard) Kretzer. She lived her early life in the Clear Spring area and graduated from Clear Spring High School with the class of 1939.
She and her husband, the late Charles F. "Bud" Mellott, were married on March 2, 1940, at St. Paul's Church in Clear Spring. Mr. Mellott died on Nov. 20, 1992.
Mrs. Mellott and her husband owned and operated farms in the Greencastle, Williamson, and Waynesboro areas for over 40 years. They retired in 1981.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro and the National Society of Farm Women. She was a former member of the Waynesboro and Greencastle Lioness Clubs.
She is survived by five daughters, Patricia A. Shew and her husband, Richard of Waynesboro, L. Ruth Mowen of Greencastle, Beverly M. Beam and her husband, Mike of Madison, Alabama, Jocelia M. "Joie" Rotz and her husband, Charles of Waynesboro, and Betty Lou Schriver and her husband, Robert of Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Ann Clopper of Hagerstown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Schildtkneckt; and two brothers, Marshall Kretzer and Fred Kretzer.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, in Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., Waynesboro, with Rev. Sue D'heedene officiating. Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
