John D. Aldridge, 88, of Waynesboro, Pa., passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, in the emergency room of Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Dec. 9, 1925, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Albert and Dora (Furlow) Aldridge. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
Mr. Aldridge attended Waynesboro schools and served in the United States Navy during World War II from January 1944 until May 1946.
He and his wife of over 67 years, Mrs. Jane O. (Overcash) Aldridge, were married Oct. 5, 1946, in Hagerstown, Md.
Mr. Aldridge was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa., and later at Arthur's Dairy, Waynesboro, from 1958 until 1974. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he had been employed as a distributor for the Washington Post since 1974.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 for 68 years, Owl's Club and Order of Owl's Nest 1073, all of Waynesboro.
Mr. Aldridge enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael L. Aldridge of Laguna Beach, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Aldridge was preceded in death by two sisters; and five brothers.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Dennis Beaver officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Wednesday morning, in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
