After a number of illnesses, Robert Newton Lavender passed away with his family's blessing on Nov. 23, in Vacaville. He leaves his loving wife, Jean of 56 years; Tom (Kim) of Vacaville, Barbara Jenkins of Russellville, AR, and Susan (Richard) Schachair of Pinole, CA; daughter, Ann (Steven) Knight, preceded him in death. He left 10 grandchildren and also one that preceded him in death.
He worked for Chevron as an Inspector at the Richmond Refinery for 33 years. He had been retired for 27 years. Bob was quite active in the Mount Diablo-Silverado Boy Scouts Council, specifically Troop 146 of El Sobrante. He had hiked over 500 miles in the Sierras. He was an avid patch trader.
After retiring, Bob and Jean visited every state except Hawaii in their RV. They had to take an airplane to Hawaii. They also visited six of the seven continents of the world. They travelled in Mexico and Canada with the Sierra Ramblers RV Club. Cruising was a hobby and they had been on 15 cruises to Alaska, Mexico, Australia, Asia and Europe. He was a member of the Vacaville Elks Club, taking tickets for the Friday night dinners for several years.
Interment will be at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon CA on Dec. 6, at 11 a.m., followed by a gathering of remembrance that will be held at the Vacaville Elks Club at noon.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.

Thoughts and prayers to the Lavender family ... so sorry to hear. What a great guy and family man. He will be greatly missed .. however the family will have wonderful memories to share and keep in their heart!
