Betty Widener Obituary

Betty Jewell Widener, 82 of Edgar Springs, Missouri passed from this life on January 24, 2016 at Silverstone Place of Rolla, Missouri.
Betty was born May 20,1933 in Tallapoosa, Missouri to Carl Earnest and Dolly Woods Tinsley. Throughout her life, some of her closest friends were her siblings whom she dearly loved and enjoyed teasing.
Betty married Sherman Widener on August 8, 1964 after a two week engagement in Las Vegas, Nevada. During their 51 years of marriage, they shared a lot of life. In their earlier years, they enjoyed playing games, gardening, and camping. Betty was an excellent cook and delighted friends at the campground with her cooking while Sherman rode horses.
Betty will be remembered by many MS&T Kappa Delta Sorority alumni for her dedicated service as their cook for eighteen years. She enjoyed making them her homemade cinnamon rolls and listening to their stories.
Betty's greatest joy was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved making candy, playing games and listening to their stories.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Sherman; daughter, Pat Eberhardt of Edgar Springs, MO; son, Sherman Widener and wife Michelle of Rolla, MO; daughter, Thea Widener of Bakersfield, CA; daughter, Sherry Paul of Bakersfield, CA; daughter, Sheila Shearer of Bakersfield, CA; one sister, Mary Roesler of Bakersfield, CA; one brother, Raymond Tinsley of Bakersfield, CA; 15 grandchildren: Steven Gotchal and wife Bobbie, Chris Eberhardt and wife Dawn, Shastine Arias and husband Adrian, Rebecca Potts, Anna Potts, Nathan Widener, Vaya Widener, James McCaa, Trisha Davis and husband Dave, Karrie Jett, Michael McCaa, Israel Moran and husband Tom, Dione Paul, Nick Bridges, and Cameron Bridges. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers (William, Henry, Vester, Lester, and Charles Tinsley), sisters (Hester Woodside and Essie Walck),and three children (Randy Potts, Carolyn Potts, and Ricky Potts).
A graveside service for Betty J. Widener will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Renaud Cemetery in Edgar Springs.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Phelps Regional Hospice.
