I remember meeting Joe Conley when he came to do a play in Winnipeg, MB Canada when I was about 16 years old. My father met Joe at our tennis club and we invited him out for dinner. It was such a pleasure to meet an idol, from a show that I had enjoyed while growing up. He is dearly missed.
You brought so much joy into my life. God be with you and your family.
I feel like I have lost a family member. Thank you for giving us so much entertainment! Blessings to Joe's family.
It seems as if Ike and Cora Beth were my neighbors, they were real to me. That speaks of the talent that Mr. Conley possessed. We often forget that acting is a job and that being on a regular series can be a lot of work.
I hope that knowing that even now, his work brings joy and entertains many, will bring you comfort.
May God's peace and His everlasting strength
be with you. Psalm 121
To The Conley Family:
From one Arizona State University Communications graduate to another in Joe, I salute his life and accomplishments. No one portrayed a character so true to life as Ike Godsey, as Joe did. He dealt with good times and bad, heartache and heartbreak. As Ike, he rebounded from the pits of financial ruin to reclaim his store, his life and his wit and wisdom on life. He was always there for his customers and neighbors. And he demonstrated the utmost patience in dealing with a nagging wife.
Joe's portrayal of Ike, will live on for generations and demonstrate there was a kinder and gentler time. While many of us never were in a general store, we all knew Ike and his store. More importantly, we all knew about life with him and because of him
Please accept my sincere condolences on Joe's passing. He will always be considered a treasure.

My husband and I loved meeting and talking with Joe at various Waltons fan club gatherings. He always struck us as a true gentleman.
I love the Waltons and still watch them every day. Mr. Conley was a great actor and loved the character of Ike. He brought a lot to this show. He will live on in our memories and hearts and through the Waltons series.
ThanksThanks Joe (Mr Godsey) for being such an integral part of the Waltons. You were a very fine actor and played the part well. Not sure how you were able to put up with Corabeth though! Growing up I really enjoyed watching the Waltons with my family on Thursday nights. A few years back I purchased some of the Waltons seasons on DVD and we now enjoy watching them with my children. Watching the Waltons brings you back to what seemed like a slower paced time. A time when people cared for others more than themselves; A time when people didn't have much, but in reality had more than we have now; a time when people pulled together. It's what our country could use right now!
Excellent actor. Rest in peace.
Joe Conley's portrayal of Ike Godsey was one of the reasons The Waltons was and is as popular and beloved as it remains today. Thank you Joe for all you contributed to a TV series that remains the absolute favorite of my entire family, from my wife and myself, to our children and our soon to be 3yo granddaughter. Rest in peace, my friend!

Our thoughts and prayers are for the family. I enjoyed the Waltons for many years and all of the characters outside the Walton family. Ike Godsey will always have a special place in our heart. He was a man who ran a tidy general store and who would hand John Boy the mail. His mail case was only a small one but it kept the Waltons and other families on Walton Mountain in touch with the outside world.

A joy shared is doubled. A sorrow shared is lessened. Joe Conley, aka Ike Godsey, will long be remembered. My deepest sympathy to his family. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
Back in 1986 I was on the last leg of a world bicycle tour. I had bicycled about 9000 miles through Europe, Africa, Asia, and was heading home to Ohio from California. I was at the visitor center in Grand Canyon National Park adjusting the packs on my loaded down bicycle, and from behind me I heard a very recognizable voice ask me, "Do you ever have to push that bicycle uphill?" I knew the voice from somewhere, and when I turned to see who had asked the question, it was none other than Ike Godsey from "The Waltons" - Joe Conley. He and his wife and daughters were on the way back from skiing in Colorado. He just seemed like a really nice fellow, and was curious about my bicycle journey. He also made a generous contribution to the cause for which I was riding - Red Cross relief for the ongoing famine in Ethiopia. I had my picture taken with him, and it became one of the great memories from my year long bicycle adventure. Was very sorry to see his passing!
Be at Peace Mr. Conley. Always loved Mr. Godsey.

I had the pleasure of taking Joe to visit with Earl Hamner's mother in Schuyler. A picture of the three of us appeared in the Nelson County Times along with an article concerning our visit. I later wrote a letter to the editor of the Lynchburg, Virginia News & Advance about our visit. Someone in London read that letter and contacted me. He and others made an annual trek to the Walton's Mountain Museum. When the Walton's Mountain Museum was opened in Schuyler,I became Joe's uninvited guest for dinner at the Oak Ridge Mansion in Nelson County where I met most of the Walton's cast members. I will always treasure those special times shared with Joe. I was saddened to learn of his passing and am remembering his family in my prayers.
I watched The Walton's with my great grandmother and my grandmother. They remembered the depression well. I still watch the reruns. I alway's find a message in them. Ike and Cora-Beth we're 2 of my favorites on the show. God Bless.
A piece of my childhood died today. I loved the character Ike Godsey. I actually went to the Walton's museum and visited the general store. It was fun; I could actually imagine Ike Godsey being there with me. May you rest in peace Mr. Conley and thank you.
Loved to watch Mr. Conley on the Waltons. He will never be forgotten. RIP Joe
Good old Ike Godsey... wonderful man, everyone should have a friend and store owner like that one... he always made the show and the way his "wife" called him Mr. Godsey was priceless.
One of the good ones...gone but not forgotten..
Wow Joe will truly be missed he truly was an amazing actor I grow up with r.i.p J.C
I still watch The Walton's everyday. Mr. Conley was a very talented person and I know will be greatly missed. My sympathy to the family. My favorite one of him has always been when he met Cora Beth. I LOVE THAT SHOW AND ALL THE ACTORS.
The Walton's was one of my all time favorites, and I always enjoyed the role Mr. Conley played as Ike Godsey. May God comfort you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Ike Godsey the strong quite type. We still watch the show every chance we get. Thanks for all the laughter and many thoughts even today. My prayers are with the Conley Family at this time.
The Waltons was a wonderful TV series dealing with the joys and problems folks faced in rural America before and during WWII. The writers and actors were the best! Life would be better if we could return to the family love and values of that time. Ike's Store was the center of community life. What a great actor! God Bless your family!
The Waltons would not have been the Waltons - without him. My deepest sympathy to your family, and thank you for "sharing him" for all the years he played roles on tv that showed how much he loved his craft - and was excellent at it.. It may take a village to raise a child - but it also takes a caring and understanding family to help an actor be a success. God bless all of you.
As a Virginian, I always had a special love for "The Walton's" series. Mr. Conley's portrayal of a small town general store owner was always so heart warming and a integral part of the show. My deepest sympathies to his family.

I grew up watching the Waltons. The world is such a different place now. I am a mother of three young children and hope that the same message is conveyed to them when they begin watching the Waltons. There's nothing better than the love of a family living simply. In this day in age - simplicity and respect for oneself as well as for others is unknown. May God Bless you Mr. Conley for all you have done for the success of the Walton series. Rest in Peace.
