Willard Shewmaker, 85, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Feb. 10, 2014 in Cape Coral, Fl.
He was born on Jan. 29, 1929 in Springfield, Ky., a son of Ernest and Ophelia (Crouch) Shewmaker. He honorably served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, and moved to Louisville in 1953.
Willard's passion for entrepreneurship led him to be owner of and investor in several successful business in the Louisville and Lexington, Ky. areas including Shewmaker Trucking, Shewmaker Custom Concrete, Lexington Mack Trucks, Louisville Mack, Lexington Diesel Injection and Page Manufacturing Company. His most loved pastimes were fishing, traveling and aviation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Tate; his daughter, Kathy Zinn; brothers, Charles, Randall and Darrol and sisters, Sue Anna Blacketer and Laverne McKune.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Catherine "Kay" (Mudd) Shewmaker; sons, Willard Dale and Gregory Todd (Christina); daughter, Peggy Ann; brother, Ernest (Judy); sisters, Mary Jo Roehrig, Alice Spaulding and Linda Worley (Jim); as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Pearson Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m.
