Don was an incredible guy, our whole family will miss him greatly.
March-19-14
I am a graduate student who sometimes takes out DVDs at the library, and that's how I met Don. I didn't see him often, and in fact I learned his name only just now when I saw the notice of his passing, but I felt like he was an acquaintance, and I was very glad for that. He had a lovely energy, maybe because, as it seemed to me, he really didn't "sweat the small stuff." He was also incredibly patient, as he was with me on the afternoon of the day before he died, explaining a minor but complicated policy about picking up a DVD that he's just put on hold for me. Finally, I'll just say that I remember last year his telling me about a few excellent documentaries on Jazz, and how much it was clear that he deeply enjoyed them. They're next on my list, though it saddens me that I won't get to pick them up from Don himself.

In the early '90s, I was in an indie band that had the good fortune to work with Don on our first recording project. I'll always remember him as a sculptor of sound: passionate, gifted, kind, patient, and having a razor-sharp wit that kept us in stitches during those late-night studio marathons. Don, may the great gig in the sky be as good to you as you were to us. God Bless.

I had just met Don this year... as a graduate cinema student at UofT having recently paid off my library fines I was now using the Media Commons often to rent videos. Don was a friendly face I was getting used to. I coordinated a film screening series with Media Commons in the fall term and Don was my tech guy. He helped me get set up every Thursday night and we worked to solve some tech problems together. He was a very knowledgeable man in his field and a very friendly and accommodating person. If the world was just made up of Dons, then I can imagine few problems and injustices. The true injustice is that guys like Don don't automatically get granted extra leases on life. This is another wonderful person lost to a world that needed him. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

I can hardly believe it. Super Don is the name that me and my very good friend Mark Prinsloo gave him. NOt only because he was a SUPER person but because he was so talented and so funny. I had been in contact with him a lot recently. He helped me immensely with my film, which couldn't have been made without him. I'm so very sad about this. Don you are always going to be Super Don in my heart. I will miss you very much.
